We’ve got a couple of great sessions coming up over the next few weeks for business owners 👇

Thursday 14th May – Business Owners Online Mastermind

Thursday 21st May – Our 10-year anniversary BOOM (in-person) in St Ives, Cambridgeshire

If you’ve never had the support of being around other business owners who really get it, you might not realise just how powerful it can be. Having a space to talk things through, get fresh ideas, and tackle challenges together can make a huge difference.

If that’s something you’ve been missing, now’s a great time to change that.

Here’s what one of our newest members said after joining last month:

“Brilliantly structured and managed. Lots to think about. I also received some of the most useful advice I’ve had in a long time from everyone in the group.”

If you fancy joining us, we’d love to have you there 🙂

A space to think out loud, gain fresh perspectives, and learn from the experience of other business owners, that’s exactly what BOOM (Business Owners Open Mastermind) is all about.

Yesterday's session was no exception. We explored what it really takes to understand others and communicate effectively, especially when someone is reluctant to open up.

One standout insight was the use of Perceptual Positions, an NLP tool that helps you step into three viewpoints:
🔸your own
🔸the other person’s
🔸the observer’s
It’s a simple but powerful way to shift perspective, build trust, and communicate with more empathy and clarity.

This naturally led us into a brilliant conversation about communication styles and how to better support neurodivergent individuals. When you’re willing to flex beyond your preferred style and consider the needs of the person in front of you, the quality of your interactions changes dramatically.

If you’re a business owner who values open conversation, shared learning, and practical insight, we’d love to welcome you to a future BOOM session. We welcomed two new members this week, Becky Lamont (Marketing specialist) and Nate Lansdell (telling stories through photography), welcome.👋

📅 Online: 2nd Thursday of each month, 10:00am–12:00pm
📍 In person (St Ives): 3rd Thursday of each month, 9:15am–11:15am

Some rewarding feedback from our Business Owners Open Mastermind (BOOM) networking session held yesterday online.

🐝 "I received some of the most useful advice I've had in a long time from everyone in the group"

🐝"So great to have BOOM back in my life"
(having a monthly session on-line has allowed members who couldn't attend in person to join again)!

For anyone not sure what a Mastermind is, it's a peer-to-peer mentoring group that meets regularly to share knowledge, provide accountability, and solve problems. Members support one another to achieve business goals, focusing on brainstorming, strategic advice, and honest feedback rather than just networking. People walk away with actions having heard advice that will be useful for them in the future, and a feeling of satisfaction having supporting others too.

We meet on-line and in person, same format for both each month.

If you'd like to join our next sessions, booking links are below.

What is the difference between a business and a social enterprise?

When you’re setting up a business, one of the most important early decisions is choosing the right type of organisation. Your structure doesn’t just shape how you operate, it also determines the kinds of funding you can access.

At The Work Bees, “What funding is available?” is one of the questions we’re asked most often. Getting the foundations right makes every step that follows so much easier.

Do you only get moving when a deadline is breathing down your neck?

We’ve all been there. You know what you need to do, but you just… don't.

At The Work Bees, we talk about this a lot. Whether it’s for our clients or ourselves, we know that "knowing" isn't the same as "doing." That’s why accountability is at the heart of what we do.

But why is our brain wired this way? It usually comes down to one of these three psychological hurdles:
🧠 1. The Brain Tug-of-War: Your "Emotional Brain" moves faster than your "Logical Brain." If a task feels boring or scary, your brain triggers a "freeze" response to keep you comfortable.
⏳ 2. The "Future Self" Trap: We’re hardwired to choose instant gratification (hello, scrolling!) over long-term goals. We treat our "Future Self" like a stranger who can handle the stress later.
🛡️ 3. The Safety Shield: Sometimes we don't start because we're afraid to fail. If we don’t try, our self-image of being "capable" stays safe. Procrastination becomes a (frustrating) form of self-protection.

Which one resonates with you most today? 1, 2, or 3? 👇

Next time you’re stuck, stop and ask: "Am I avoiding the task, or am I avoiding how it makes me feel?"

Be 🐝 kind to your future self today!

What a powerful Mastermind session today at BOOM in St Ives. A morning of surfacing limiting beliefs, challenging assumptions, and leaning into that “just do it… what’s the real risk?” mindset.

We dug into the moments where our own beliefs quietly hold us back, explored where those stories were formed, and looked at how to shake them loose so we can move forward with clarity and confidence.

So often we think the problem is one thing… until we dig deeper and realise the real blocker sits somewhere entirely different. That’s where the breakthroughs happen.

There is huge power in saying challenges out loud, and even more in having a room of brilliant minds help you unpack them and turn them into actionable next steps.
