In 1935, Mr. and Mrs. Leese moved to Eccleshall from their home in Newcastle-Under- Lyme, bringing with them their 1 lorry. Here, they raised their 8 children, 4 boys & 4 girls, whilst making a living by farming the land.
Mr. Leese would often visit local farm sales and purchase items of scrap metal. Over the following 10 years, his accumulation of scrap metal had grown to such an extent that it was now considered an established business.
In 1959, Leese Brothers became a Ltd company and started to supply the local steel works at Shelton Barr with scrap metal.
All 4 sons were employed by the company at various times and ran the business after Mr. Leese retired.
In later years, Jeff, the youngest son, and his wife, Liz, became directors of the company and ran the business with their son Colin.
As the years passed, and with the help of other family members, Colin took on the running of the business whilst Jeff spent many a happy hour in his crane, surrounded by piles of scrap!
Over the years, the business has continued to grow and modernize with the times. The processing equipment has improved greatly and is an essential part of the business, allowing all types of scrap metal to be processed and recycled in a much more efficient way.
The main bulk of the scrap metal processed at Leese Bros is now transported to Liverpool docks for the export trade.
Sadly, Jeff passed away in February 2025. He is very dearly missed by his family, friends, and business acquaintances.
