Lovely to see our youngest and his assistance dog featured this week on the Dogs for Autism page. We will always be grateful to them for placing Arthur with us - assistance dogs like him really do change lives 🙂

Meet Lewis and his DfA autism assistance dog Arthur.

One of Arthur’s main roles is to provide sensory input in the first hour after Lewis comes home from school. Being at school can be very challenging for an autistic child and Lewis needs to find a way to decompress when he gets home. Arthur’s job is to lick Lewis’ bare feet, lying against his legs or enjoying Lewis stroking his ears. Lewis likes Arthur to lie pressed firmly to the side of him and this is very calming for Lewis after school.

Arthur is the consistent, calming help that Lewis needs after a long day spent at school.

Autism assistance dogs like Arthur are trained to perform specific tasks that help their partners manage the disabling aspects of their condition, enabling them to do the things they couldn’t do before.
We are training new pups for future autistic partners, both children and adults, so that they can help with the everyday challenges life may bring.
