We are proud that we were successful in our bid for the Government’s Towns Deal funding to regenerate our great town of Stapleford. In 2019 it was announced that £3.6bn was being made available to regenerate more than 100 towns across the UK. We established a Towns Board to develop a Town Investment Plan bid and it was announced in March 2022 that we had been successful in winning £21.1m. As a sma
ll town with big potential, this represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a prosperous and inclusive new future and build a lasting legacy for everyone. We are proud of our heritage, our ambition and our community spirit, and will use this to create a reinvigorated, reimagined town centre, that encourages an influx of new businesses, local skills development and sustainable job creation. And we want Stapleford to be a great place to live and that means making sure people have access to facilities which help them have active, healthy, enjoyable lifestyles. We will create new sports and recreational facilities that will enhance standards of living and opportunities. Through six key projects, in collaboration with our local people and businesses, we will show that town centres can have thriving futures where living, working, shopping, leisure and enjoyment come together to create a vibrant experience which attracts different people at different times. Community hub and young people’s centre
A new cutting-edge community pavilion and young people’s centre for fitness classes, dancing, club groups, elections, meetings and event hire and more.
2. Enterprise hub building
To help businesses prosper and attract people to the town, a new Enterprise Hub will offer start-up and up-scaling space for businesses through flexible office space and an indoor/outdoor market space for pop-up events and food and drinks stalls.
3. Library learning facility
To offer new and improved learning opportunities for residents, the library will be upgraded to create a new education centre for entry level skills training. Safer cycling scheme
To encourage more people to travel in a more sustainable way, the local cycle infrastructure will be improved with new cycle routes and training facilities.
5. Street improvement scheme
To make the town centre more appealing and safer for pedestrians, a project is being developed, with final details due in Autumn.
6. £1m Town Centre Recovery Grant Scheme - already underway
To help high street businesses get back on track after the pandemic, this £1m grant scheme offers: 1) support to expand the way businesses distribute their services and b) create buildings of the future through improved accessibility, energy efficiency and visual improvements that enhance the look and feel of the town. Together, Stapleford will stand as a model for what a small town can achieve.
