£58 MILLION. More than three and a half years. Not a single charge.

Britain sent its elite soldiers into Afghanistan to face unimaginable danger. Now, years after their service, they remain under the shadow of allegations that have yet to be proven.

The Afghanistan Inquiry was supposed to take 12 to 18 months. Instead, the wider cost to the Ministry of Defence has reportedly reached £58 million, while former SAS commanders warn of the damage being done to recruitment and trust.

Claire Bullivant, CEO of Great British PAC, said:

“Our servicemen and women need to know that when Britain sends them into battle, Britain will stand behind them when they come home.”

Credible allegations must be investigated. But due process and the presumption of innocence must apply to our soldiers, too.

Britain cannot expect its Armed Forces to risk everything for this country, only to leave them facing years of uncertainty when they return.

Labour must make absolutely clear that it stands behind those who serve.
