Forward Shaquille Gwengwe continued his tremendous start to the season by scoring twice as Newport County AFC drew 2-2 with Tranmere Rovers in League Two.

Gwengwe gave the home side the lead after 11 minutes when he headed home powerfully from Harrison Biggins’ cross.

Christian Doidge went close to making it 2-0 moments later and Will Vaulks then forced Newport County goalkeeper Jordan Wright into a save as the away side pressed.

Tom Ince nearly levelled in the second-half for Tranmere Rovers, but they did make it 1-1 on 71 minutes when Zane Okoro slid in at the near post from a Joel Senior cross.

Just four minutes later, the away side went ahead when Dylan Jones scored.

However, Gwengwe had the last say as in the final moments with time running out, he fired in his fourth goal in just three matches to salvage a point for The Exiles.

Striker Will Davies scored his first goal of the season as Fleetwood Town FC beat Shrewsbury Town 4-0 to set up a Carabao Cup Third Round clash against Sheffield United.

In front of a crowd of 1,066, veteran striker Ched Evans scored twice against the League Two rivals to add to an eighth minute own goal from Will Boyle.

Evans’ first goal came with 28 minutes on the clock as he headed home from Mark Helm’s cross.

Just seven minutes later, Evans scored his second to all but end the tie for his fourth goal of the campaign.

ACHIEVE client Davies then rounded off the win as he fired home from 20-yards into the bottom corner to see Fleetwood Town maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Forwards Shaquille Gwengwe and Yahya Bamba were both on the scoresheet on their EFL debuts as Newport County AFC cruised to a 3-0 win over Rochdale AFC.

In front of a crowd of 4,872 fans, the hosts took the lead after 18 minutes when ACHIEVE client Bamba headed across goal for Kyle Cameron to net against Rochdale, back for their first match in the Football League after gaining promotion last season from the National League.

Harrison Biggins’ cross was then converted by Gwengwe after 38 minutes for his first Football League goal since arriving from Poole Town in the summer.

The convincing win was rounded off in added time when Bamba scored his second goal in as many games. After netting in the League Cup clash at AFC Wimbledon the previous weekend, he volleyed home to seal three points for Newport County in new manager Hayden Mullins’ first league match in charge.

A first Kidderminster Harriers FC goal for Levi Amantchi saw them earn a 1-0 victory against Eastleigh in The National League.

After gaining promotion from the National League North, Paul Wotton’s side faced Eastleigh in their first home clash of the campaign after two years away from the top flight of non-league football.

Reece Hall and Callum Stewart went close for the hosts but it was ACHIEVE client Amantchi who came off the bench to score the all-important goal after 78 minutes as he slid home from Stewart’s cross to give Kiddy the win.

✅✍️ DONE DEAL: Midfielder Mathew Achuba has completed a transfer to Maidenhead United FC, signing for The Magpies from Hemel Hempstead Town.

Achuba began his career in the academy at Ebbsfleet United and has made a name for himself as one of the standout midfielders in the National League South.

After a brief spell at Meridian, the 25-year-old then spent four years with Wingate and Finchley, cementing himself at the heart of the midfield, before moving to Vauxhall Road in November 2024.

He made 64 National League South appearances for Hemel Hempstead Town and he helped The Tudors to last season’s National League South play-offs, playing alongside fellow ACHIEVE clients Finley Wilkinson and Kyle Ajayi, who recently joined Bedford Town and Forest Green Rovers respectively.

✅✍️ DONE DEAL: Defender Bradley Nicholson has completed a move to Carlisle United Football Club, signing for The Cumbrians from National League rivals Gateshead FC for an undisclosed transfer fee.

6 foot 2″ left-footed defender Nicholson, 27, is capable of playing in both the centre of defence and at left-back, joining Gateshead in January 2026 from fellow National League outfit Solihull Moors, where he had made 20 league appearances, scoring once, after moving from Boston United in July 2025.

He helped The Heed complete a miraculous escape from relegation last season, the 2025-2026 campaign, with the club looking highly likely to go down before manager Rob Elliot returned as manager for a second stint and guided the club to safety.

Nicholson began his career with Guiseley before joining Boston United in March 2022, during which time he also enjoyed a loan spell with Scunthorpe United.

Possessing a huge throw which is a real weapon for Gateshead, he impressed greatly and he now follows manager Rob Elliot from Gateshead to Brunton Park. In total, he made 21 National League appearances for The Heed, scoring twice.

✅✍️ DONE DEAL: ACHIEVE client Olly Dyson has completed a move to National League side Tamworth, joining the Lambs from National League North outfit Spennymoor Town.

Versatile Dyson, 26, can operate at right-back or in midfield and has been a real fans’ favourite at Spennymoor Town and a virtual ever-present after joining from York City FC.

Dyson made 41 appearances in the National League North last season as the club finished just outside the play-off places.

Dyson started his career with Huddersfield Town, enjoying loan spells as a youngster with Liversedge, Shaw Lane and Scarborough Athletic to gain valuable first-team experience.

In December 2018, he joined Barrow on loan and enjoyed another loan spell at Holker Street during the 2019-2020 season, helping them to gain promotion to the National League and playing 31 times, scoring four goals.

In September 2020, Dyson moved to York City on a permanent deal. He went on to make 119 appearances for The Minstermen, scoring seven goals and earning the Clubman of the Year accolade. During his time with York City, he helped the club to gain promotion from the National League North.

Such was his impressive form, Dyson was also called up to represent the England C national side by manager Paul Fairclough, where The Three Lions defeated Wales 1-0.

In July 2024, he made a loan move to Spennymoor Town and he impressed greatly, helping the club to the FA Trophy final at Wembley Stadium and winning a double Player of the Season award, making the move permanent at the end of the season.

In total, Dyson made 87 appearances for Spennymoor Town, scoring five times, and he has now stepped back up to the National League to join manager Andy Peaks’ Tamworth side.

✅✍️ DONE DEAL: ACHIEVE client Yahya Bamba has made the move into the EFL, signing for League Two side Newport County AFC from National League outfit Forest Green Rovers Football Club.

Exciting winger Bamba, 27, had joined Forest Green Rovers from Eastbourne Borough in June 2025 for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Bamba has penned a two-year deal at The New Lawn and the frontman, who possesses blistering pace, makes the move up a league from National League South side Eastbourne Borough. He made 14 National League appearances for manager Robbie Savage’s side, scoring in a victory at FC Halifax Town in August 2025.

He had joined Eastbourne Borough in March 2024, signing from Isthmian Premier League side Cray Wanderers, whom he had joined in 2022, and was a virtual ever-present for the Wands before switching to join Eastbourne Borough.

Previously with Phoenix Sports, Bamba made a huge impact when signing for Sevenoaks Town in March 2021, and scored ten goals in nine games to help Sevenoaks steer clear of relegation from the Isthmian South-East.

He made a similar impact after joining Eastbourne Borough, netting on his debut against Hemel Hempstead Town and going on to score seven goals in 11 appearances.

He scored four times in 38 appearances in 2024-2025 as Eastbourne Borough lost in the National League South play-offs, before making the move to Forest Green Rovers.

✅✍️ DONE DEAL: Striker Shaquille Gwengwe has become the latest ACHIEVE client to make the transition from part-time to full-time football as the prolific striker has joined EFL outfit Newport County AFC.

Gwengwe scored 47 goals during an incredible season for Poole Town as The Dolphins narrowly missed out on promotion, losing in the play-offs to Gloucester City.

At the club’s end of season presentation evening, Gwengwe won The Lucy Drake Trophy (Supporters’ Club Player of the Season); The Martin Cooper Trophy (Fans’ Player of the Season); The Bob Terrell Trophy (Managers’ Player of the Season); The Tom Rogers Trophy (Top Goal Scorer); The Players’ Player of the Season.

Gwengwe, 25, has previously played for Worthing, Blackfield & Langley and Andover Town and has risen through the non-league pyramid to become the top scorer in the Southern League Premier Division South last season.

During the 2021-22 campaign, he became a fans’ favourite at AFC Totton, bagging 15 goals in 29 outings in all competitions and this form alerted Dorchester Town, who promptly signed him and he ended his first campaign with the club as the top goal scorer with 13 goals.

The following season, he netted another 17 goals and at the end of the campaign, he turned down offers from several clubs to stay for a third season, the 2024-25 campaign with The Magpies.

He scored ten goals last season before making the move to Poole Town in the summer of 2025.

As well as winning five awards for Poole Town, Gwengwe was also awarded The National Game Awards Golden Boot at a special awards event held at AFC Wimbledon’s Plough Lane stadium.

The National Game Awards is a special celebration of non-league game, held at the end of each season and organised by The Non-League Paper.
