Striker Will Davies scored as Fleetwood Town FC thumped their higher division opponents, Barnsley Football Club, 4-1 in the EFL Trophy.

It took until the 59th minute for the deadlock to be broken when Ronan Coughlan scored from the penalty spot after he himself had been fouled in the box by Ravenhill.

It took just three minutes for the home side to extend their lead when Jesse Dempsey headed into the path of ACHIEVE client Davies and he headed the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The game was all but over after 65 minutes when Fleetwood Town substitute Loupalo-Bi scored from close range just three minutes after coming off the bench.

Barnsley did reduce the deficit after 81 minutes as Amani Richards found Brownlie and he scored into the bottom left-hand corner.

Six minutes later, the hosts made sure of the victory when they scored a fourth goal of the game courtesy of Sawkins.

Wideman Yahya Bamba scored as Newport County AFC drew a thrilling EFL Trophy game 2-2 with League One Plymouth Argyle Football Club, only to lose 5-4 on penalties.

Kieron Evans gave the home side the dream start after just three minutes when he scored before ACHIEVE client Bamba scored from the penalty spot just before the hour mark to double the advantage.

However, the League One leaders pulled a goal back when Aribim Pepple scored after 74 minutes as he capitalised on a slip by Lee Jenkins to finish calmly past goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald.

In the dying seconds, Tyreeq Bakinson made it 2-2 from Xavier Amaechi’s cross.

Pepple was then fouled in the box deep into added time and had the chance to win the match from the resulting spot-kick but he saw his effort saved by Newport County goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald.

The match went to a penalty shootout and it was the visitors who came out victorious as Michael Adu-Poku failed to score from 12-yards for the home side – the only player to fail to convert a penalty.

The result means that The Exiles sit second in the group, one point ahead of Crystal Palace Under-21s, who they host at Rodney Parade at the start of November.

The home side turned the game around in the 74th minute as they took the lead courtesy of Ben Whitfield as he fired home from Brunt’s pass and, with the away side chasing an equaliser, the home side clinched the three points with a third goal on 89 minutes as Danny Cashman netted from Whitfield’s assist.

Striker Shaquille Gwengwe scored his fifth League Two goal of the season as Newport County AFC defeated Grimsby Town Football Club 2-1.

In front of a crowd of 4,973, the first-half was an edgy affair with neither side able to break the deadlock.

However, the home side did break the deadlock in the second-half as experienced frontman Christian Doidge opened the scoring after 57 minutes as he skipped past a defender before firing into the net past goalkeeper Christy Pym.

It was the home side’s first shot on target and with their second, they doubled the advantage as Gwengwe made it 2-0. Harrison Biggins’ corner was headed back across goal by Ciaran Brennan and Gwengwe nodded into the net from close range for his fifth goal of the season.

Morgan went close for Grimsby Town soon after but the away side did pull a goal back with 83 minutes on the clock when Justin Amaluzor’s cross deflected in off Newport County goalkeeper Jordan Wright.
