600 coins. 41 countries. And Ukraine took one of the 10 category wins.

“Let’s Hold the Line!” has won Most Inspirational Coin at the 2026 Coin of the Year Awards.
The results were announced at the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Pittsburgh, USA, as part of the annual Coin of the Year programme organised by World Coin News.
An international panel of experts judged around 600 coins issued in 2025 by mints and issuing authorities from 41 countries. Only 10 coins were selected as category winners.

“Let’s Hold the Line!” is a 5 hryvnia nickel-silver commemorative coin issued by the National Bank of Ukraine on 24 February 2025. It reflects the resilience of Ukrainian soldiers and the unity of the people supporting them.
Now it also has an international award to its name.

Interest in the coin has picked up noticeably since the results were announced, and our remaining stock is getting limited.
For dealers and wholesale buyers, there are still quantities available.

The design tells a story of resilience: a soldier’s hand holding a shield, protected by a child’s drawing, while the damaged shield on the reverse represents Ukraine’s ongoing struggle for freedom and independence.
A low-mintage silver issue with strong historical significance, making it an important addition to Ukrainian modern commemorative coin collections and dealer inventories.

One of the more interesting Ukrainian releases of 2026 is the new Sea Baby Naval Drone commemorative.

This issue is tied to a platform that has already secured its place in modern history. It was the Sea Baby that carried out the now famous “bavovna” operation against the Crimean Bridge and participated in attacks that destroyed several russian Black Sea Fleet vessels.

Beyond the coin itself, the story is significant. Ukrainian engineers demonstrated that ingenuity and asymmetric thinking can challenge a much larger naval force and, in many ways, redefine the role of unmanned systems in modern warfare.

The National Bank of Ukraine has translated that narrative into a straightforward design: a Sea Baby cutting through the Black Sea on the reverse and a stylized trident transforming into the vessel’s wake on the obverse.

From a numismatic perspective, the coin combines several elements that collectors tend to respond to over time—historical relevance, strong symbolism, and immediate recognition beyond the collecting community.
Whether it ultimately becomes one of the defining Ukrainian commemoratives of the decade remains to be seen, but it already feels like an important snapshot of a moment that will be studied for many years to come.

Where do you see Sea Baby ranking among recent Ukrainian commemorative issues?

If I had to choose one Ukrainian cultural coin for an international coin shop this year, it would probably be this one.

Most folklore-themed coins are easy to appreciate at home.
They’re much harder to sell abroad.
Kyrylo Kozhumiaka feels different.
You don’t need to know Ukrainian folklore to understand what’s happening.
A hero.
A dragon.
A battle between good and evil.
It’s one of those stories that exists in almost every culture, which makes this release surprisingly accessible to international buyers.

That’s exactly why it caught my attention.
Not every coin has to tell a global story.
Sometimes it’s enough to tell a universal one.
Would you give this release shelf space in your shop?

Four years ago we designed these five coins.
Looking back today, they feel less like products and more like a time capsule.
Since then, history has kept moving.
If we were adding one more coin to this collection today...
What would it commemorate?
I’m genuinely curious which moment you think deserves to be remembered in metal.

Most coin dealers focus on mintage.
I focus on something else:
How much explanation does the coin need?
The easiest coins to sell are often the ones with the clearest story.
That’s what makes MAGURA USV interesting.
At first glance, the theme is easy to understand: a naval drone that became one of the symbols of Ukraine’s military innovation.
But the coin doesn’t stop there.
The obverse features Magura from Slavic mythology — a winged warrior associated with victory, protection and military strength.
In other words, it works on two levels:
A story that is easy to grasp.
And symbolism that rewards a closer look.
That’s often where the strongest modern coin designs succeed.
Not by being complicated.
But by being accessible first and interesting second.
What’s the easiest coin you’ve ever sold?

Most new coin releases compete for attention.
A few create their own demand.
The strongest dealer opportunities are rarely the coins aimed only at existing collectors.
They’re the releases capable of attracting multiple buyer groups at once:
• collectors
• gift buyers
• investors
• history enthusiasts
• art lovers
• first-time buyers
The coins featured in this report were selected because they already show many of those characteristics.
Some benefit from global recognition.
Some introduce entirely new collecting themes.
Some combine strong storytelling with limited availability.
All are worth watching closely.

A new chapter in Ukrainian numismatics begins.

The National Bank of Ukraine has unveiled the first coin in a brand-new series dedicated to the Ukrainian Avant-Garde movement, featuring Aleksandra Ekster, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and a pioneer of the Art Deco style.

For dealers and collectors alike, this release stands out for more than its artistic significance. It is the first Ukrainian coin ever issued in a distinctive octagonal shape, immediately setting it apart from previous NBU releases and giving the series a strong identity from the very start.

Ekster’s work brought together Ukrainian folk traditions and the bold experimentation of Cubo-Futurism, Constructivism, and Art Deco. Her influence extended far beyond Ukraine, helping shape the visual culture of an entire era. Today, her legacy is finally receiving the international recognition it deserves.

From a numismatic perspective, this is exactly the kind of release that attracts long-term collector interest: a renowned historical figure, an innovative format, silver content, premium booklet packaging, and most importantly, the first issue in what promises to become one of the most exciting modern Ukrainian series.

We expect strong demand both from collectors of world coins and from audiences interested in Ukrainian art and cultural heritage.

Wholesale allocations are now available for our trade partners. Feel free to get in touch for availability and further details.
