Hushwing Ranger Service

So, here at Hushwing we've been kept busy and proud with our new "children" - the bat pip pups Clinker, Bramble and Baillie.

They're eating loads, have weaned off specialist milk, and are now trying flight forays in the safe but small net 'box' pen.

BUT.... What we really need is the proposed large flight conditioning and rehabilitation pen to be based at Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre. The first of its size and importance in Scotland.

For those who have donated to our crowdfunder to build the pen, a massive thanks. Could you now copy this post to other folk, please?

We've even been honoured to be able put up the crowdfunder link poster at the recent music festival on . Well, folk have got to have something to read on the toilet!!

But please donate as Clinker, Bramble and Baillie really need to get their flight wings ❤️🦇

(as always we only handle and take care of the bats, safely, with gloves and mask and the backup of the knowledge of bat carers before us. If you find bats let us know)

We (Loch Lomond Bat Group and Hushwing) are very busy with bats and care at the moment. To give but (bat?) one example, one of our Rangers has holidayed with three bats to keep them going... yes, a real Batman's holiday! (experienced bat worker and using the correct equipment)

Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue, Islay & Jura Bat Rescue and LochLomondBatGroup have been giving continuous support and advice but we will need the Hessilhead rehabilitation pen in August (materials ordered in July *gulp*) to have been built, in order to help give these bats their best chance of getting back to the wild.

Loch Lomond Bat Group, Islay & Jura Bat Rescue and Hushwing RS are helping Hessilhead in a crowdfunder.

Help Us Build Scotland’s Largest Bat Conditioning & Rehabilitation Flight Pen by August. Yes, this coming August!

Young bats require intensive care before they can return to the wild. Once they are old enough to fly, they must develop the strength, agility, and hunting skills needed to survive independently.

That is where Hessilhead's essential bat conditioning & rehabilitation flight pen comes in. A sort of gym and hotel for trainee bats!

Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre have nearly built their gull flight runs this year to care for and rehabilitate the rescued gulls.

However, there is the final push to complete the runs on Friday 12 June (yes next week!).

But they need grafters to help put on the roof mesh and to wheelbarrow and spread pea gravel. And possibly other tasks of equal importance.

It's really a DIY SOS with a gull theme.

If you can give your time, like a free lunch (there is no such thing as a free lunch!) with good company for a great cause then contact Hessilhead on 01505 502415, saying that you're flying in and coming to help on Friday 12 June. Bringing a drill is optional.

A good day - met with these two legends of Scottish Countryside Rangering today. In these two guid fowk is found significant knowledge of nature, countryside, heritage and Scottish Rangering history.

They have been my sounding board on many Rangering occasions in my career, and are great friends.

We even step out the door into a street and suddenly learn new ID skills for this Weymouth pine and other twin needled species, from Mr S., our tree of knowledge! 😊

(Don't worry, it's a Ranger thing).

Warning roadkill images after the car.☹️

I'm no petrol head but can admire a 1986 classic when I see it. 2.8litre injection, in those days, wow! Look at the lines of the styling.

Then sadly am reminded of the consequences and difficulties of driving in winter dark days... A mature sow matriarch badger trapped between wall and road, killed last night or early this morning.

Please keep safe and take care driving, for your and their sakes.
