Did you know?

Under the current ‘whistleblowing’ law, workers are protected where they make what is called a ‘protected disclosure’. This is a disclosure of information which, in the reasonable belief of the worker, tends to show one or more specified types of wrongdoing.

It’s changing from 6 April 2026

Sexual Harassment will be added to the list of what’s called a ‘qualifying disclosure’.

What does that mean?

If someone raises concerns about sexual harassment, they will benefit from whistleblowing protections, including protection from detriment and dismissal.

What do you need to do as an employer?

🎯 Review and update your whistleblowing policy and handbook (if you have one)

🎯 Ensure you treat harassment complaints as potential protected disclosures

🎯 Align grievance, harassment and whistleblowing procedures

🎯 Train managers on how to handle complaints safely and lawfully (our L&D expert can help you with this)

Business Owners & Charity Leaders: Now’s the Time to Strengthen Your People Processes

From 1 January 2027, updates to the Employment Rights Act 2025 will change how employers navigate dismissals—but with the right preparation, these changes can actually support healthier, more consistent people practices.

Two key shifts are coming:

🔹 Unfair dismissal eligibility after six months

Employees will gain unfair dismissal rights earlier—at six months rather than two years. This simply means businesses and charities will benefit from having clearer structures in place during the early months of employment.

🔹 Removal of the cap on compensatory awards

The existing cap on compensation will no longer apply. This reinforces the value of well-documented, fair, and transparent processes that support both managers and employees.

These changes are an opportunity for businesses and charities to:
