Continuing this week's most popular Q&As
*How did you begin sewing and designing?
My passion for design and sewing started from as young as I remember.
As a child I would spend hours drawing 'Bus Stops' as I called them . Lines of hand drawn people whose clothes I would design. I then proceeded to cut up clothes and experiment ....often from my sister's wardrobe ! My creative Mum was always an inspiration and I remember the excitement of our trips to the fabric shop together.
I followed my dream and studied Fashion Design & Technology at Manchester University, gaining a First Class Degree . The photo is a throwback to 1994 at the final show, with the special guest of Princess Anne.....What amazing memories.
My career then took me to fashion buying , before landing my dream design job, designing from scratch on paper and CAD and then visiting suppliers and factories overseas to put items into production and building my knowledge of fabrics and all aspects of making garments
I spent over 15 years working for major high street names including Littlewoods, Next, Matalan, Mothercare and JJB Sports.
In the later years I became frustrated with the corporate world and yearned to work on more high end products.
I became freelance and began building a business of my own.
My background had given me not only the creative experience but importantly the technical knowledge of garment construction.
11 years ago I took on a part time role supporting A Level Textile students at a local college , whilst I took a leap of faith and rented a studio.
The studio quickly became the hub for many creative courses and the bridal design and alterations business grew to the wonderful business I have today.
So, that's a little about me and my obsession with fashion and sewing. Celebrating 30 years in the industry ❤️
