This month, we’re celebrating Tom 👏

You know that person who somehow manages to be everywhere at once?

That’s our Tom.

He’s the engine that keeps things moving, taking on whatever comes his way, all while keeping a smile on his face.

And this month's been no different. Tom’s been consistently on the ball, especially with some of the team off on their jollies! 🏖️

Basically, if something needs doing, Tom’s probably already doing it.

And if he’s not… he won’t be far away.

Tom’s a hero every month, but this month, he’s getting the recognition he deserves!

A caravan in the Lakes, popping over to Nashville and watching Haaland score in Dallas? Now that’s a retirement. 😂⚽

You might remember our Happy Retirement video competition last month. Well, Christine’s video came in a day late, but we thought it was too good not to share.

When Christine and her husband first came to Joslin Rhodes, they were keeping their money tucked away in a current account.

After a chat with the team, they decided to invest some of it, bought a static caravan and started enjoying what they’d worked hard for.

And she’s certainly not been sitting around...

Christine's travelled, enjoyed plenty of time with family and even headed to Dallas for the World Cup.

As Christine put it, the World Cup was on, so she “just had to do it”! ⚽️

Safe to say, she’s got plenty of stories to tell!

It feels like there's been one headline after another lately. A change of government, rising prices, tariffs and trade wars.

Plenty to worry about, if you let it.

Yet when it comes to our retirement savings, something's shifted.

We're keeping calm and carrying on.

We can't control what happens in markets or in Westminster. But we can control how prepared we are.

Your plan should change when your life does, not when the news does.

That's the whole idea behind long-term financial planning. Giving your money time to ride out the ups and downs, while you get on with the retirement you've worked for.

Uncertainty has a way of filling in the gaps.

Often with the worst possible outcome.

But when things are properly talked through, reality tends to feel more manageable than imagination.

A lot of retirement uncertainty comes from simply not knowing what things mean.

We want to give a huge shoutout to Valerie from Valerie Ann Artisan Cakes, who kindly donated not one but two incredible cakes for our Macmillan Coffee Morning. A Victoria sponge and a chocolate fudge cake, both completely free of charge. 💚

Both cakes went down an absolute treat with staff and clients alike (we may have gone back for seconds).

Thank you for your generosity, it's clients like you who make our Macmillan Coffee Morning so special, and every slice helped us raise money for a cause that matters.

If you're after a beautiful cake for your next celebration, go and check out Valerie Ann Artisan Cakes, you won't be disappointed!

What a day! Our fabulous team and wonderful clients came together for plenty of cake, a little friendly competition and, most importantly, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

And the results were delicious!

A huge congratulations to our Star Baker Rob, who took the crown with his Kinder Bueno Cake. 👏

And a big thank you to everyone who baked, judged, bought raffle tickets, donated or simply stopped by to join us. You helped make it a fantastic morning.

Together, we raised an incredible £841 for Macmillan Cancer Support. 💚

But there’s still time to add to the total. Our JustGiving page is still open if you’d like to donate: https://cm26.macmillan.org.uk/fundraising/cm26011781

The right time.

The right moment.

The right feeling.

Most people are waiting for things to line up perfectly.

But life rarely works that way.

At some point, you just begin.

Taking the first step doesn’t mean having every answer.

Sometimes it’s simply understanding where you are today.

Our free Retirement Readiness Quiz takes just five minutes and gives you a personalised score to help you understand how prepared you are for the next chapter. Why not try it for yourself here: https://www.joslinrhodes.co.uk/resources/retirement-readiness-quiz/

When you’re younger, you trade time for money without thinking too much about it.

Later, you start to realise how precious time actually is.

Time with family.

Time to slow down.

Time to enjoy life properly.

It’s the one thing nobody ever seems to have enough of.

Retirement is often about creating more time for the things that matter most.

Our free Pension & Retirement Workshop is a chance to ask questions, understand your options and start thinking about the future you want. You can reserve your space here: https://www.joslinrhodes.co.uk/workshops/pension-retirement-planning-workshop/

🚨 Turning 66? You might have longer to wait for your State Pension.

The DWP has confirmed the timetable for the State Pension age increase from 66 to 67.

The change has been planned for some time, but it's happening now. And if you were born on or after 6 April 1960, it could affect when you start receiving your State Pension.

But here's the thing. Your State Pension age doesn't have to be your retirement age.

Your pensions, savings and everything else you've built up could give you options to finish work sooner.

The important bit is knowing what you've got, how much is 'enough' and when you could realistically pack work in.

So, when can you comfortably retire?

Come and talk it through with our local team of Pension experts at The Planning Rooms in Preston Farm. Your first meeting is free and we'll help you come up with a plan - www.joslinrhodes.co.uk/contact-us/

Or, if you're not quite ready for that, why not try our Retirement Ready Quiz now - www.joslinrhodes.co.uk/resources/retirement-readiness-quiz/

In this week’s we’re traveling back in time 40 years to Middlesbrough town centre in 1979.
A bird’s-eye view shows an almost unrecognisable town to the one we know today. Taken before the Hill Street Centre, Middlesbrough Bus Station and the A66 were built, it’s hard to see which parts of the town are the same.
What you can see though, is the unbelievable amount of car-parking spaces, something that’s definitely not on the modern-day version of the same vantage point.
Do you remember Middlesbrough like this?

No Hill Street Centre, no bus station and no A66 running through the town centre - do you remember how it used to look 40 years ago?
