🏠 Damp patches appearing inside your home? The problem might not be what you think…

One common cause of damp ingress is bridging in the cavity wall. This happens when something connects the outer and inner walls together, allowing moisture to travel across into your property.

Common causes include:
🔹 Debris or mortar droppings inside the cavity
🔹 Incorrectly installed insulation
🔹 Raised external ground levels

When the cavity is bridged, rainwater can bypass the protective gap and soak into internal walls — leading to damp patches, peeling paint, mould growth, and damaged plaster.

If you’re noticing signs of damp, it’s important to identify the root cause rather than just treating the symptoms.

A proper inspection can save you time, money, and ongoing damage to your home.

🧱 What is Cavity Wall Insulation Extraction?

If your home has cavity wall insulation that’s no longer performing as it should, extraction might be the solution.

Over time, insulation inside your walls can become damaged due to moisture, poor installation, or simply age. Instead of keeping your home warm, it can actually trap damp and cause cold spots, mould, and higher energy bills.

🔧 So what does extraction involve?
Cavity wall insulation extraction is the process of safely removing the existing insulation material from the gap between your walls. Specialists drill small access holes into the outer wall and use professional equipment to carefully extract the old insulation.

🏡 Why would you need it?
✔ Damp or mould issues
✔ Reduced insulation performance
✔ Cold patches on walls
✔ High heating costs

✨ The benefits:
Removing faulty insulation helps your walls breathe again, reduces moisture problems, and prepares your home for new, more effective insulation if needed.

If you’ve noticed signs of damp or your home just isn’t as warm as it should be, it might be time to take a closer look.

💡 Did you know your home could be losing heat through its walls?

With new cavity wall insulation, you can keep the warmth inside where it belongs — meaning your heating system doesn’t have to work as hard. That translates to lower energy usage and noticeably reduced heating bills. 💰

It’s a simple upgrade that makes your home more energy-efficient, more comfortable, and cheaper to run all year round.

🧱 WHAT IS THE CAVITY WALL

The cavity is the space between the inner wall and the outer wall.
It is designed this way to prevent moisture from the outside wall getting to the inside wall and to stop any other elements from causing discomfort and damage to your home internally.

🧱 PROBLEMS

Insulation is typically added to the the cavity walls the create a better epc rating for the property and to lower the cost of energy bills for the occupant.
The problem with this is moisture transfer!
Bricks are porous and in continuous bad weather will soak water all the way through. If the insulation installed is absorbant, you now have created a bridge for the moisture to cross from the outside wall to the inside wall. This is where the issue with black mould, peeling wall paper and cracks appear.

🧱 SOLUTION

The Solution is to extract the existing insulation.
The method for this is to drill holes around the outside of the property following a set pattern, remove a brick at the bottom of the external wall and use an extraction vacuum with an air gun to push the insulation out of the cavity leaving it clear.

🧱 HOW TO REINSTALL CORRECTLY

Once the insulation is removed a full extraction report will be written with picture evidence and sent to the occupant with geo tag coordinates and time and date stamps.
The new insulation we use is a thermal beading system. They are little polystyrene beads that get blown into the walls coated in glue that forms a nest of insulation around the property. It is the perfect solution as moisture can no longer transfer, air can pass through the beads and you will be able to renew your epc rating for the property.
