Hot weather in Scotland used to feel like a novelty, now itโs becoming more common, arriving earlier and lasting longer.
According to the Met Office, Scotland recorded its warmest year on record in 2022, with recent years continuing to break temperature records across the UK. In fact, all of the UKโs ten hottest years on record have occurred since 2002.
As temperatures rise, so do workplace risks.
Heat-related fatigue, dehydration, reduced concentration and uncomfortable PPE can all impact safety and performance, particularly for outdoor workers or physically demanding roles.
The HSE advises businesses to review workplace temperatures, ventilation, hydration and working arrangements during periods of extreme heat.
A summer risk assessment review could make all the difference as hotter conditions become the new normal.
