So many people don’t realise the importance of closing all internal doors at night.

A standard domestic door, will give several minutes protection from a fire on the other side of the door.

Sleep with internal doors open ? The smoke from a fire in your house will kill you long before the fire gets to you.

Sleep well.

Well, that's mine done.

What am I talking about ?

Every year, on New Year's day, I replace the batteries in my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It doesn't matter if they are battery powered or mains powered, the batteries should be replaced proactively, so that you know they will work if you need them to.

Don't wait for the annoying beep at 3 o'clock in the morning, why does that always happen at 3 o'clock in the morning ? 🤔

It doesn't have to be on New Year's day, that's just the date I've picked, but choose a date in the year, it may be a birthday or anniversary, it doesn't matter, as long as it is a date you will remember.

Smoke detectors should be replaced at 10 years old, if you can't remember how old your detectors are, or if you inherited the detectors, and there is no indication of age on the units, change them.

This family possibly thought it would never happen to them, like so many do.

And then it does.

Test your smoke alarms at home. Do it now. If you don’t know how to test them, let me know and I will help you, but test them, today.

RIP

Fire crews said they tried to find the children inside the burning house.

Is your fire alarm ready for reopening ?

Is your fire alarm ready for reopening ?

“Primark in Westfield Stratford has had to close for the day because of a problem with the fire alarm. Lots of shoppers being turned away. Must be frustrating for the staff too, who'd put so much effort into reopening.”

Fire safety recall

19/09/2019

This afternoon, I watched 4 people die.

There was a fire in a building, and one of the escape routes were blocked by the fire, which only left one escape route.

The fire alarm rang almost immediately as the fire started, the first people were out of the building in around 30 seconds.

At the assembly point, when the roll call was taken, it became apparent that there were 4 people unaccounted for, they were still in the building.

The lucky part, was that this was an unannounced fire evacuation drill, instigated by us.

We got access to the building, and set a "fire" at the main entrance, blocking the escape route.

During the debrief, the 4 "casualties" openly admitted that they ignored the fire alarm, hoping it would stop, one said they thought it may have been a test.

Absolute madness.

If they act like that in the event of the real thing, they would almost certainly have died.

RIP
