English Wine Week

There are loads of ways to join us and enjoy our wines this English Wine Week:

🥂 IEWA Summer Wine Fair
On Saturday Chris is heading down to Bristol to show our wines and tell some stories at The IEWA Summer Wine Fair. We’ll be taking all of our exciting rarities and oddities, so if you fancy a day trip (or you’re already going), you’ll see us there!

🍷 Drop-in Wine Tastings
Next weekend, we’ll be sharing even more wine out and about around Worcestershire. On Friday afternoon we’ll be at Faun Wine in Malvern, and on Saturday afternoon we’ll be at Bottles Wine Shop in Worcester. If you fancy saying hi and trying some wine in a couple of lovely bars, do join us!

🏅 Artio Double Silver Medal
What wines can you try? Why not our IEWA, and now Wines of Great Britain silver medal winning Artio! This exhilarating, characterful sparkling Sauvignon Blanc/Bacchus is clearly a favourite at the moment. Stocks are running low, so be sure to pick up a bottle before she disappears.

🍇 Tours
Your opportunities to enjoy a delicious, fun, educational afternoon with us are dwindling - only 44 places on our vineyard tours remain all year! If you’ve got a voucher, or have been struggling to get a group of friends together, now is your last chance to reserve your place.

🌱 The Vineyard
Things are going nicely in the vineyard. Flowering has started, our wildflowers are blooming, and our shepherd huts are welcoming welcoming lots of guests who want to enjoy the beautiful Worcestershire countryside 😌

We still have some bottling to do, and some more tastings in the diary, so whenever, wherever and however you see us, we hope you enjoy the wine!

Silver for Artio 🏅

The results from The IEWA are in, and we’re happy to say Artio was awarded a silver medal!

We always thought this rather wild Traditional Method Sauvignon Blanc & Bacchus would to turn some heads and win-over some hearts (Artio is the Celtic goddess of the wilderness after all!) She’s a firm favourite here at the vineyard, so we’re glad to see the judges loved her 🥰

Stocks of Artio are beginning to run low - pick up a bottle of this wild lady for £26 while you can!

(Half bottles of Col Fondo also available)

🕊️ A wedding

This week we were honoured to host our very first wedding EVER at the vineyard. We’ve always shied away from weddings, despite getting asked all the time, because we’ve simply been intimidated & limited by the amount of work they involve. HOWEVER, when a pair of our lovely pickers asked if they could hold an intimate wedding at ours, how could we possibly say no!?

For one day only, our shop was turned into an intimate, rather beautiful wedding venue. Everything was local - the flowers, the catering (Paisley Flour Catering ), the photographers, the cheese, and yes, the wine. Of course we wanted to be in the vineyard, but the forecast was worrying us all week. We did, however, manage to make a break up to the vines between the clouds for some photos.

And the wine?

Mike and Beccy had the foresight to buy our last bottles of Vintage Sparkling Kerner 2016 over a year ago, and oh boy was it tasting good! Brown bread, apple, salt, candied lemon - so good! And the bottles of Bacchus went down a treat over the delicious dinner.

Sadly we’re not a wedding venue, but if you do have an intimate event in mind, we’d love to hear from you.

Back to bottling today!

Bottling the 2025s has begun!

2025 will be remembered as a standout vintage for English wine…perhaps the best ever? Endless sun, a great growing season, and not a spot of disease in sight. A farmer’s dream!

Although the yields weren’t noticeably different here, the quality of the juice was. Our average natural abv was 12.5% - around 2% higher than recent vintages! The juice was flavourful, we held on to most of our acids, and we have since blended some of the best wines we think we’ve ever made!

The first of the 2025s into bottle was our HUGELY exciting Late Harvest Kerner. Harvested at 14.5% abv, but only fermented to 9.5%, this naturally sweet wine has aromas of candied peach, lychee and marzipan - a dream for any cheeseboard!

Bottling recommences tomorrow. Our aim is to be finished in time for English Wine Week in 2 weeks time - let’s see what we can do 💪

A vintage treasure

Yesterday we had the absolute pleasure of trying a 20 year old bottle of our sparkling Kerner, and we can very honestly say that it wasn’t just drinkable, but it was absolutely incredible! Easily one of the best wines we’ve tried in recent years.

The bottle was very kindly shared with us by the new owners of Yarhampton House who discovered this, and many other old bottles, in their cellar. Chris is already booked in to do an audit of what’s down there 😍

The wine is named after Jonty’s (the previous owner) stepfather (George Frederick Daniels/Fred Daniels) and his mother (Nancy Eckert). Fred was a pioneering photographer who had work hung in the National Portrait Gallery. The label features one of his drawings.

As for the wine, WOW, what a treat!

A classic vintage-style Champagne. Honeyed, smokey, a bit mushroomy, cooked apple, toasted nuts, ginger, and lick of salt. A plush, chewy body, ample acidity, plenty of fizz (although obviously a lot creamier now) - it was honestly up there with some of the best vintage Champagnes Chris tried during his time at Harvey Nichols!

And the funny thing? This bottle probably still had another 5-10 years in it! Beautifully balanced, and perhaps still more to give. Ageing wine is a gamble, but it certainly paid off this time.

So to naysayers about English wine, and to those who think that the Classic Cuvée approach to sparkling wine is the only way, we wish you could have tried this with us. 20 year old English Kerner from Worcestershire, and honestly drinking SUPERBLY!

If you have an old bottle hidden away, we would LOVE to share it with you if you fancy some company (and some wine in return).

🏆 Meet the 2025s

Seven months after 2025’s extraordinary harvest, we are finally experiencing the fruits of our labour, and let us tell you right now that these are undoubtedly the best wines we’ve ever made 🤩

Overall, the 2025s present an incredible balance of power & freshness. The vast majority of these grapes were the ripest our vineyard has harvested in 55 years. Even the lightest wines have a supple, fleshy body, whilst the most powerful left a persistent, fresh tingle on the tongue. The flavours are bold, the intensities are incredible, and we are leaving the session with an immense feeling of pride and excitement!

Most of these will be released as soon as we get the labels, so without further ado, let us introduce you to our 2025s:

🍋 JUSTINIUS KERNER - 3 votes for favourite 🥇

🍓 BRANWEN (rosé) - 1 vote for favourite 🥈

🍒 PINOT NOIR - 3 votes for favourite 🥇

🍋 SAUVIGNON BLANC - unlike any Sauvignon we’ve ever made!

🍑 MADELEINE - A seriously decadent style

🍏 BACCHUS - Replacing Severn Vale for the first time in 9 years!

🍯 OLD VINE KERNER - Last made in 2022!

🍊 AMBER WINE (name TBC) - An approachable, but still a bit wild orange wine.

🍯 LATE HARVEST - WE DID IT! Last produced in 2017! 1 vote for favourite 🥈

🍾 SPARKLING - Also going into bottle.

(Don’t let the votes fool you - these are all exceptional wines! We simply made ourselves choose 😩)

These wines deserve a launch event(s), so keep an eye out for those.

Shop closed / Birthday boy

A quick note to say that we’re closed all weekend.

It’s Arlo’s fourth birthday (can you believe it!), so we’re inviting all of his nursery friends to the vineyard for some outdoor fun. Here’s a picture of the birthday boy with the first wine he helped us bottle this week!
(A test of our 2025 orange wine)

There’s loads going on behind the scenes - our wine is being served by Slowfood‘s bar at the Ludlow Festival, we’ve finished blending and are now onto the trial stage, plus loads of private events going into the diary - we’re just dashing around like headless chickens 😄

Sorry for the inconvenience. See you next weekend.

Springing into Spring

It’s a busy, vibrant time of year at the vineyard. There’s a real buzz around at the moment, and we’ve had a great time sharing wine with you all!

🍇 TOURS
60% of this year’s tour places have sold out! There’s no better way to experience our wine than on a sunny day, with your friends and family, and the people who make it. Don’t miss out on reserving a delightful afternoon!

We’ve also hosted a number of private groups. Yesterday we had the surprising honour of welcoming Nike UK’s senior managers for an afternoon, whilst April & May have got back to back hen parties! Very different energies as you can imagine 😄

Bev has been at the Worcestershire Festival Of Business to share our tours with corporate clients today. If you’d like to experience our vineyard, please get in touch!

🍴 SERVICE
We’re delighted to add Folium to our small but beautiful list of trade customers. We actually welcomed the team here back in 2018 when they were just starting, so we’re happy to see this relationship come full circle.

🏕️ STAY
In weather like this, there’s no need to go abroad for a holiday! Stay closer to home, explore England’s countryside, and enjoy a relaxed retreat at one of our peaceful, secluded shepherd huts.

🌱 VINES
The vines are loving this weather. We’ve been extremely fortunate to avoid a frost so far, so we’re feeling good about the start the vines have been given. Still, fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Enjoy the sun, the energy and wine.

A weekend of wine

Wine is made to be shared, and we’ve sure shared a lot of it this weekend!

On Friday we held a wine tasting at Worcester’s latest and finest coffee shop - Gaumont Coffee. No, a wine tasting at a coffee shop doesn’t spring to our minds either, but if you’ve seen or heard of this amazing little place you’ll understand why our wines are perfectly at home here! A lovely, intimate evening.

Then we moved onto vineyard tours.

Saturday was our second (of many) hen parties of the season. We always have a lot of fun with Hens, and this group was no exception!
And then Sunday was our usual public vineyard tour. Ideal weather for a walk and some wine!

If you want to share wine with us this year, check our availability online.

We need your help!

We’re a finalist in Wines of Great Britain ‘s photography competition, but it’s down to public voting, so we need your support!

If you can spare 5 seconds, head over to WineGB’s Instagram, click on the post and then simply comment the number 4. That’s it!

Things like this are free publicity, and they help us spread the word of Worcestershire 🥰

Ps we have spaces on this Sunday’s vineyard tour if you’d like to join us for a sunny afternoon 🍇
