Time To Talk Day 🗣️

Today is a day dedicated to talking about mental health. A day that gives friends, families, communities and workplaces the opportunity to talk about their mental health and how their feeling.

Talking isn’t always that easy, whatever your going through, but a good chat to a friend, family member, co worker or neighbour can always help. Starting the conversation is always the hardest step but once you do, you will feel better and certainly supported. There is always someone to lend an ear.

The charity Mind who lead the way with this campaign has some great resources online and is always promoting everyone to talk about their mental health.

Remember it’s ok, not to be ok. And talk, you’ll feel much better for it ☺️

Well today is the third Monday in January which is widely known as ‘Blue Monday’ the most depressing day of the year 😔

This can be for many reasons, Christmas is a distant memory but the Christmas debt it still lingering… it’s cold, wet with short days and payday seems like 2636382 days away!

All being said, some people do find today and January a very difficult month, anxiety and depression can veer its ugly head and you can become consumed with debt, feelings of loneliness… the list goes on.

Here are some ways to help combat Blue Monday:
☀️get outside, even if it’s for a short 20 minute walk. Natural light helps stabilise serotonin and triggers endorphins which are mood boosting hormones
☕️ be sociable, meet a friend for a coffee or arrange a movie night with your bestie
🎯 if you’ve struggled with your New Year’s resolution, reset and set yourself a new target to achieve
🏃‍♀️ 🏊‍♀️ exercise is great for making you feel better, sleep better and become mentally stronger. So why not have a little swim or hop your bike
🤔 understand that you may feel low during January, why you feel like this and remember that’s it’s ok not to be ok and the feeling should pass. However, if the feelings don’t go away then talk to someone or your GP
💸 if debt is affecting your mental health, speak to someone and try to resolve the issue. This could mean speak to a financial adviser or your bank

Just remember feelings pass and it’s ok not to be ok ☺️

Tomorrow sees the start of ‘16 days of action against Domestic Violence’

Domestic violence can sometimes be a taboo subject, but these 16 days are to raise awareness and support victims of domestic violence. Although, we should be thinking about domestic violence everyday we can use this time to bring it to the forefront and take action.

• 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence
• 1 in 7 men will experience domestic violence
• 92% of victims have been slapped, hit or punched
• 81% were choked or strangled
• 47% were r***d by their partner
• 26% were attacked with a knife, gun or other weapon

There are many forms of domestic abuse; physical abuse, psychological and emotional abuse, sexual abuse, financial abuse, verbal abuse and coercive control.

If you or anyone you know are in a relationship with someone and experiencing domestic violence of any form, you can get help. Don’t be ashamed to get help. If it is an emergency situation call 999.

You can also visit www.nhs.uk for advice on what to do and how to seek help.
Women can call the freephone national domestic abuse helpline, run by Refuge on 0808 2000 247 any time day or night.
Men can call Men’s Advice Line 0808 8010 327

We was out doing some visits today and came across a great example of dust extraction control and a very tidy workshop! Good use of signage too.

When using tools please remember to wear the correct PPE and RPE and use dust extraction for the tool. Not only is the wood dust a health hazard but the problem is also chemicals that are used to treat the wood.

Well done

May we never forget.

I wanted to take this time to look back to 2020 Remembrance Day. Because even during the pandemic we showed a great sense of togetherness helping and supporting each other.

The annual Remembrance Day parades were very thinly attended in 2020 due to covid.

However, a property developer decided not to let the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month pass without a special effort.

This was near Bermondsey Square in East London where a huge poppy was hoisted skywards by a building site crane plus a large Help for Heroes flag held up by two other cranes at the site.

The gesture was organised by its developer London Square. The poppy was built from plywood at the site by staff, who observed the two minutes silence at ground level.

Today is World Mental Health day but actually everyday our mental health should matter.

We don’t think twice about taking a tablet for a headache or inflammation in our back or foot but what about our mind?

Our mind also has days, weeks, months and years of struggle where sometimes things just don’t feel right. We need to work still on removing the stigma that it’s ok to say “I’m not coping” “I need to talk” “I’m on medication for my mental health”.

It’s always ok to not be ok and it’s always ok to ask for help.

Organic September 🌽🥦🥔

Did you know certification is legally required to grow, process or market organic products?

Organic farmers have to follow strict standards and are inspected once a year, so when you see the organic logo you can trust that the food and drink you buy has been made in a way that is better for people, animals and wildlife.

If you haven’t tried organic produce yet, now is a great time to start! There are so many vegetables in season this time of year and as the cold sets in what better way to enjoy some fresh produce than with a homemade casserole 🥘

So this is me sorted for September!

I will add my fundraising page on in a few days and any pledge to this great charity is very much appreciated!

Every day, about 600 children and young people from across the UK arrive for life-changing treatments.

Every day, young lives hang in the balance as patients, families and staff battle the most complex illnesses. Every day, the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs that change the lives of thousands of children – and change the world.

Despite the greatest challenges a child can face, the hospital is a place where being sick does not always mean being sad. And it’s a place where you’ll find – today and every day – some of the bravest people you could ever meet.

This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support, and every day is a chance for you to make a difference.
