This week the vans have been busy out and about collecting some really interesting lots ready for an upcoming private collection auction later in the autumn.

Can't say too much at the moment, but this was the view that the team had earlier this week, after nearly a 7 hour drive and a short stop in Sheffield (gives you some clue as to which direction they went) to collect further items for auction, they encountered some woolly friends 🐑

Celebrating International Literacy Day and few things have the power to transport us quite like a good book!

To mark this day, we’re celebrating the stories that have captured imaginations, introduced generations to new worlds and, in some cases, become collectable objects in their own right. And where better to journey today than Middle-earth?

Coming up in next week's auction at our Stowmarket saleroom is a 1961, twelfth impression of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, published by George Allen & Unwin and retaining its original dust jacket.

From Bilbo Baggins and the Shire to a new generation discovering the story for the very first time, The Hobbit is a wonderful reminder that the books we pick up can stay with us for a lifetime.

Our next Fine Furniture, Works of Art & Paintings auction is now available to view online.

The auction takes place at our Stowmarket Saleroom on Wednesday 16 September starting at 11am.

It's where you can find lovely lots such as this superb quality George III style Secretaire cabinet by Arthur Brett of Norwich. A wonderful example that has lots of useful element to it.

We have been on some really great collections in the last couple of weeks and visted some fascinating buildings right across the UK.

It's also always interesting when you pull up to a home visit and find that the house you are going into once belonged to the outstanding film director Stanely Kubrick as our valuer Russell found out last week. Then two days after this Oliver was at the home of a late politician who was still serving at 100 years old - now that is impressive!

And that is why our valuers love doing what they do, not only do they see interesting objects regularly, they also go to some really interesting locations.

Did you miss last week's auctions? If you did you missed some great lots!

Once again silver dominated the saleroom, with 99% selling rate (yes there was only 1 lot unsold in the auction and yes we do find that annoying!), the most popular piece of the auction was a pair of Edward VII silver sweetmeat dishes that sold for £1,250 (including buyers premium) followed closely by a set of eight Victorian table forks that sold for £785 (including buyers premium).

Last week we announced the next artist in our Gallery based at our Glandford location......Teddy H Salad.

From 14 September, we will be opening The Gallery doors to this interesting exhibition, we are super excited about this one as we love his style of work. It’s fun, colourful and full of character, and his use of reclaimed and found materials really resonates with our own passion for giving objects a new lease of life.

The exhibition will be running until Sunday 11 October and we will be open every day between 11am and 4pm for you to come and take a look.

We’re delighted to be supporting Allen Hall Gallery in bringing Teddy’s work to Glandford....don 't miss out!
