Very pleased to be producing new interpretive panels about the Castle and Calda House as part of this project. Amazing buildings in beautiful surroundings - with fantastic stories to tell!

Work began today (Monday, 19 January) on a 10-week, £318,450 project to expand parking, improve road safety and better protect Ardvreck Castle, one of Sutherland’s best-known historic sites on the North Coast 500.

National Lottery Heritage Fund support for interpretation plans at Northern Meeting Park

🎉High Life Highland with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, is set to enhance the historical narrative of Northern Meeting Park in Inverness. The £120K funding will enable the development of new on-site and online interpretation, including guided tours and talks, to engage the community with the park's rich heritage. 🌳🏛️📜

This project, alongside other ongoing efforts like refurbishing the grandstand and building a new community pavilion, aims to revitalise the park and make its stories accessible to all. Cllr Ian Brown expressed gratitude for the funding, highlighting its importance in realising the vision for the park. Caroline Clark from The National Lottery Heritage Fund emphasised the project's focus on community involvement and accessibility, ensuring that the park's history is shared and celebrated by locals and visitors alike.

Sometimes you need to speak out! The cultural heritage and archaeology of a large swathe of the East Highlands is under threat from this appallingly insensitive proposal. Cheapest is not best - better options need to be found.

Rowan Tree Consulting led on the research into Badenoch's cultural heritage and the development the marketing and interpretation strategy which led to the Badenoch The Storylands brand and promotional activities and events like the Badenoch Heritage Festival 2022 event at Dun da Lamh in the post below.

On # World Tourism Day 2022 we think that Badenoch is an excellent example of how local communities and businesses can develop tourism sustainably for the benefit of local people, and we are proud of having been involved in it.

Tourism Day 2022 Cairngorms National Park

Why not try an e-bike and find an easier way to approach Dun da Lamh hillfort? The last 10-15 minutes is too steep and walking is necessary.

Didn't know this about rowans!

In this recording from 1975, Betsy Whyte describes the use of rowan berries as a love charm. She is being interviewed by Dr Linda Williamson of the School of Scottish Studies and you can also hear Betsy’s husband Bryce talking in the background.

Betsy Whyte, born Betsy Townsley, was a Traveller associated with the area around Brechin and Montrose in Angus, who became best known through her autobiography, 'Yellow on the Broom', published in 1979. The book captured the public's imagination with its illustration of growing up as a Traveller girl in Perthshire and Angus between the First and Second World Wars. It was arguably the first popular account of the Traveller experience, a part of Scottish society which had often been omitted from the historical record.
