A common problem with Hotpoint and Indesit group tumble dryers. The rear bearing wears through and the drum shaft cuts down into the rear panel causing the shaft to be damaged and also as on this machine the drum started rubbing on the motor! This is such a common problem that the manufacturers now fit a plate over the top of the motor to protect it (could also be avoided by using a better quality rear bearing……..just saying 😂).
If you start hearing a squeal when using your dryer get it checked straight away as if caught early, only the rear bearing needs replacing, but in this case the drum shaft also had to be replaced as it wasn’t caught early enough!
