Spot the difference!! Stroud is a hard water area. If you aren't using limescale prevention products in your washing machine then this is what eventually happens. The electrics will start tripping every time you switch the machine on if your heating element looks like the one on the left. This photo is from a repair I did yesterday on a Bosch.

It's tumble dryer season again. You are going to be using yours more and more through the autumn and winter months. This is the perfect time to give yours a bit of TLC. You already know about cleaning the lint from the filter inside the door don't you? You do this before every load right? 😉 You need to go one step further every once in a while though.....
If you have a condenser dryer you need to clean the heat exchanger panel every now and again. This can be found behind the kick plate at the bottom. This thing gets absolutely choked with fine lint that slips past the main filter. If it's blocked, not only are you wasting money on energy you don't need but your dryer is more likely to overheat and your fire risk increases. Give it a vacuum or a blast under the kitchen tap.
