Update.

The Farriers Registration Council, along with Government have agreed that it is essential for farriers to continue working.

Unfortunately I feel the need to stress the importance of keeping your distance from your farrier.

If a suitable distance is not maintained you will find yourselves with farriers stopping working because they no longer believe it is safe to do so or have become ill. We are continuing to work for your horses welfare. I know many of us would rather be at home keeping our families safe but have a duty of care to your horses.

The seriousness of this virus needs to be communicated to everyone. If you have an appointment and are on a busy livery yard, or in fact any yard, can I politely ask you ensure the safety of your farrier by communicating with other liveries to give them space to work. I believe many yards have group WhatsApp messages so I urge you to stress the importance of this message. I fear as people are now choosing to spend their spare time with their horses that keeping a safe distance from your farrier is becoming less likely to happen.

Please can you also familiarise yourself with the guidance below. You should use this, along with advice from your farrier to decide on the necessity of your appointment at this time.

Feel free to share this post.

Thank you and stay safe.

A message to my clients.

During these difficult times I am following the advice of the FRC and the WCF, and of course the government.

At present I will continue to shoe as normal and honour appointments booked in. Please be patient if i need to make changes so to accommodate everyone. I may, where possible try and bring appointments forward if a total lockdown is imminent but the diary is pretty booked up and may be utilising the extra daylight to do this so some appointments may be very early or quite late.

As long as your horse isn’t dangerous I’m happy to help myself as long as they are in the stable and easily accessible and good to catch. I will be following the social distancing guidelines and expect my clients to do the same. There is no need for me to have any human contact or close interaction when going about my daily rounding.

Moving forward over the next few months, if you wish to have shoes off and go barefoot for a bit for financial reasons please discuss this with me, I will advise what to do best for the animal. Also if your horse is in reduced work we can also discuss a longer shoeing or trimming cycle for the same reasons.

Until it is illegal for me to carry on my business I will on the grounds of animal welfare. If I develop symptoms of course I will have to stop for a while.

All the best and stay safe.
