This year, RTC North helped bring chemical engineering to life for more than 700 Year 8 students across the North East through DiscoverChemEngLIVE workshops delivered by RTC’s STEMHub team.

Led and funded by the IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers), and delivered in partnership with All About Futures, the programme offered full-day workshops designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and introduce pupils to the real-world impact of chemical, biochemical and process engineering.

This is a brilliant example of partnership working to inspire the next generation!

Pupils across County Durham have been reaching for the stars through Street Cosmos, bringing science, space and future STEM careers directly into primary schools. RTC North is leading the delivery of this ESERO-UK Space Innovation Fund programme, which builds on Street Cosmos, the art-and-space engagement model developed by Durham University.

As part of the project, Dr Meganne Christian FRAeS, a materials scientist, polar researcher and member of the European Space Agency’s Astronaut Reserve, visited three County Durham primary schools to share her STEM journey and inspire pupils to explore the possibilities opened up by science, creativity and determination.

By connecting young people with real-life role models and space research taking place close to home, Street Cosmos is helping pupils imagine new futures, raise their aspirations and see their place in the North East’s growing space sector.
