A before and after from a recent crown reduction on a group of mature trees.

Over time the canopies had become quite dense and heavy, blocking light into the garden and catching more wind than they needed to. The aim here wasn’t to change the trees, just to bring them back into balance.

Careful reduction throughout the crown, taking weight out of the outer limbs while keeping the structure sound and the shape natural.

You can see in the photos how much lighter the canopy is now, but still looks like the same tree. That’s always the aim.

Everything cleared and left tidy, with the lawn protected while we worked.

We don’t just do trees.

This one was more about what had taken over the house than the house itself. The ivy had spread right across the roof and along the walls, starting to creep under tiles and into the guttering.

Access was tight, so we brought in the narrow access platform. That let us work safely from above rather than dragging ladders across the roof and risking damage.

You can see in the photos just how thick the growth had become. Ivy like this holds moisture, lifts tiles over time and can start causing problems if it’s left unchecked.

Everything was removed carefully to avoid damaging the brickwork or roof. Once it’s back to a manageable state, it’s much easier for the customer to keep on top of it.

This mature Oak tree had previously been struck by lightning, causing substantial structural damage. As the photos and footage show, the scar on the left hand side ran from the very base of the tree right through to the top, significantly compromising its integrity.

Unfortunately, in the interest of safety, it was deemed necessary to remove the tree altogether to eliminate the risk of failure.

Using a grapple saw, the upper crown was carefully dismantled in a controlled manner before the remaining stem was safely felled. This method allowed the team to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of safety throughout the operation.

All brash and timber were chipped on site and transported for use in a biomass boiler, ensuring the material was responsibly recycled.

One recent job involved removing trees positioned directly beneath an insulated cable, adding an extra layer of complexity to the work.

This conifer had begun causing structural damage to a retaining wall, with root pressure affecting the stability of the surrounding structure. With the tree positioned above a narrow water channel and limited working space, access to the site was far from straightforward.

Careful planning and a methodical approach were essential. The team worked within the restricted access, safely dismantling the tree while protecting the surrounding walls and maintaining safe working conditions throughout.

A mature Ash tree, another casualty of the recent high winds.

When trees of this size come down, the focus is on making the area safe and then working methodically to dismantle and process the timber. This mature Ash had fallen across the field, requiring careful cutting and sectioning to safely remove the weight and manage the large timber.
