🎬Here’s a little video at our Sandfields and Brunswick Community Action Day, with Kate explaining more about the work we’ve been doing in the area.

The day was another part of that work, getting out into the community, having conversations and turning some of those conversations into action – like a new fortnightly litter pick.

And yes, this explains why Tatiana was dressed up as a seagull! 🐦

🌱 A new green roof taking shape in Swansea!

📸 Kate sent us these photos (from her new phone!) of a session Urban Foundry supported at the The Bunkhouse Swansea.

People who’d completed green roof training through our programmes joined specialists Chris Bridgman and Dusty Gedge to learn how to install one in real life.

🐚 The bit we are all really excited about is that it uses waste cockleshell from Penclawdd.

Instead of being thrown away, the shells are being tested as a green roof substrate turning a local waste product into something that could help us create greener, more climate-resilient buildings.

🌧️ Green roofs can help manage heavy rainfall, support wildlife and keep buildings cooler.

If Swansea cockleshell can do the job, there’s potential for this idea to be used globally.

🌿 Thank you to everyone who joined Kate and Tatiana for the Sandfields and Brunswick Community Action Day last week,despite some very weird weather!

It was great to see so many people at The Vetch Park, getting involved in the activities, meeting people and chatting to us about the area and its green spaces.

🔑 Pop-ups do more than just fill an empty space.

We’re very excited to be working with Cyngor Sir Gâr - Carmarthenshire County Council again on 15 new pop-up spaces acr oss Ammanford, Carmarthen again on 15 new pop-up spaces across Ammanford, Carmarthen and Llanelli.

Meanwhile spaces bring empty units back to life, give new businesses the chance to test-trade without big overheads and add new energy to our high streets.

And sometimes, they become permanent.

One of our favourite parts of our PopUp Wales project has been seeing businesses in pop-up spaces become established in their towns.

🎶 One of the very first social enterprises Urban Foundry Director Ben Reynolds set up was a community music organisation, with one of its first projects being a youth music initiative in Gorseinon.

As a talented musician himself, he's always believed in the power of music and creativity, and cultural regeneration is still a big part of the work we do at Urban Foundry.

In fact, so many of our team are musicians, artists and performers.

Last Saturday, the brilliant Carly Tucker performed at our Urban HQ venue.

AND it turns out she was one of the young people who took part in that original Gorseinon project.

A lovely reminder that the work we do today can have a lasting impact for years to come. And a full circle moment for Ben.

🌿 Join us for the Sandfields and Brunswick Community Action Day!

Over the last few years, Urban Foundry has spoken to more than 500 people about the new green spaces created around St Helen's School, Fleet Street, Rodney Street and Phillips Parade, as well as proposals for St Helen's Road.

The feedback has been really positive. But people also told us they wanted to see more community activity, better communication about what's happening locally and everyone working together to help care for the area.

That's what this day is all about.

Come along for a fun, family-friendly morning of activities, meet your neighbours and help make Sandfields and Brunswick an even better place for people and nature.

🎨 How much do we love supporting fantastic creative projects right on our doorstep?

This gorgeous piece of urban art can be found on the side of the new Elysium Gallery in Bellevue Way.

(big hats off to Dan Staveley for what he's created here. If you haven't been to Elysium Gallery yet... go!)

Lauren supported Hasan Kamil (Hass), who runs FIYA Creative CIC, after he attended our First Tuesday Club.

She worked with him to develop his plans and secure a significant grant from Arts Council of Wales for small and large-scale murals across Swansea.

Projects like this help with regeneration, celebrate creativity and make our city a more interesting place to live, work and visit.

This mural by Kitsune and Krimsone is a contemporary response to the surrealist poetry of Dylan Thomas.

There is already another spectacular piece of artwork at Salubrious Place, and there will be more to come.

❤️ Shout out to Zoe Gealy and MIOE Creative who have led the community engagement for this project.

Business support funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

📍 Lauren was at 4theRegion's It's Your Carmarthenshire event at Parc y Scarlets last week.

Having a very busy time catching up with familiar faces, meeting new people and celebrating the BIG projects happening across the county.

We're working closely with Cyngor Sir Gâr - Carmarthenshire County Council and have recently been commissioned to deliver 15 new pop-up projects. We'll be sharing more about those very soon.

🙏 Thank you to the organisers at 4theRegion. There was so much enthusiasm for supporting town centres, local businesses and communities.

🌿 Ben and Fran (Natural Resources Wales) were in sunny Aberystwyth last week.

They were presenting to the National Access Forum for Wales at the National Library of Wales about our green infrastructure work.

🌳 They talked about some of the projects we have delivered in Swansea, like the rain gardens in Sandfields, and why we always involve communities from the very start.

Working with Natural Resources Wales and Swansea Council has meant we can deliver projects that make a bigger impact, making Swansea greener, more attractive and better prepared for the impacts of climate change.

We’ve also been lucky enough to work alongside some of the leading experts in green infrastructure over the years, and we learn something new from them all the time.
