25 years ago on 31 March , I launched The CV Lady.

Over the years I have helped customers worldwide into employment. From writing CVs, coaching, writing statements and letters, coaching and mentoring, interviewing and recruitment, I have loved it all.

Working flexibly from home, before it was the new norm, enabled me to earn a living whilst bringing up my then, small children.

As a self-employed person it’s been hard work juggling sales, marketing, production, customer service, planning and socials but what a skill set it has given me.

If you’re considering stepping into a new business venture, go for it!

Thank you to Everyone who have used my services and supported me along the way.

All the best,
Marianne

Covering Letters

Despite the modern world we live in, it is important when applying for a job to provide the recruiter with a suitably tailored cover letter. A CV is not enough to get you shortlisted on its own.

Here is a short explanation of how to write a Covering Letter.

A covering letter is a short document that introduces you to the employer and explains why you are suitable for the job. Here are some general guidelines to follow:

Use the same font and size as your CV to make it look consistent.
Make sure the company name and recruiter’s details are correct.
Use a professional tone and match the keywords used by the employer in their job advert.
Format the letter like a business letter with a header, salutation, opening, middle, and closing paragraphs, letter ending, and signature.
You can use specific phrases from the job description and include them in the letter, or take a more creative approach and include personal details while still focusing on the job requirements.
The letter should be between 200 and 400 words long.
Start with a brief introduction about yourself and why you’re writing.
Mention the job you’re applying for and your interest in it.
Give a snapshot of the relevant skills, experience and qualifications you have that relate to the job.
Provide examples of your achievements and how they demonstrate your suitability for the role.
Explain what you can offer to the employer and how you can contribute to their goals.
Thank the employer for considering your application and express your enthusiasm for hearing from them.
If you know the name of the person you’re writing to, end the letter with ‘Yours sincerely’. If not, end it with ‘Yours faithfully’.

I hope these tips help you write a good covering letter. You can find more examples and templates online.

Good luck with your application! 😊
