Today is World Mental Health Day and the theme this year is prioritising mental health in the workplace.
This awareness day is close to me as I suffer from anxiety, and this led to burnout a couple of years ago. Burnout in the workplace is something Mental Health UK is promoting awareness for and have lots of useful resources on their website.
I got help with my anxiety when the burnout was at its worst and have since been on medication. This has helped to a degree but the majority is also using methods and self care to help control this.
My career can be overwhelming with the amount I need to control, plus then adding in regulations, deadlines etc. and then throwing into the mix juggling being a working mum, my daughter is taking her GCSEs this year so we are looking at colleges, and then the normal life admin tasks it means I have alot going on 😮💨
So what methods do I do to help this?
🩶 JOURNALLING is a huge help and helps me to clarify my millions of thoughts flying around my head. This is also great for coming up with ideas and plans.
🩶 TASK MANAGEMENT is a non-negotiable method. I need to be organised and emptying my tasks is beneficial for keeping my mind clear.
🩶 PLANNING is then taking those tasks captured and putting into a system. I use a method of weekly and monthly planning which helps me stay organised.
I try to also bring in self care and taking time out which helps to reduce the burnout side. I enjoy gaming as I can’t think of what is in my head whilst being immersed in the game. I also recently purchased for myself a kindle to take on the go reading, one of my favourite times for this is when I am early for school run, I will sit and read in peace before the after school chores progress. Then a good old Netflix binge is always a winner for shutting off.
Another way of improving my mental health awareness whilst being productive is on my side hustle day is taking myself to the local hotel and getting a Pumpkin Spice, Bottle of water and working in a different environment. This has developed into a weekly routine and it keeps me going looking forward to my once a week treat ☕️
