A very exciting update for some of my favourite ever Foundations finds! Get yourself to the Corinium Museum in Cirencester from this weekend for a fascinating glimpse into Lechlade's history 🥳🗡️

✨ Exciting News from Our Prehistory Gallery! ✨
Very early Bronze Age objects, including fascinating grave goods from a possible ‘tribal chieftain’, are currently being carefully prepared for display by Bruce and Cerian from Redman Design.
These remarkable finds were uncovered during excavations in Lechlade and include:
🟠 an amber bead, the earliest in the museum’s entire collection
🟫 a stone wrist-guard, once worn by an archer
⚔️ a copper dagger
To allow us to install these extraordinary artefacts safely, the Prehistory Gallery is closed today.
But do come to see them from this weekend, when they’ll be on display for the very first time together with the full story behind this intriguing early Bronze Age burial.
We can’t wait to share this exciting chapter of prehistory with you!

March 11 (Weds) - Andy Hood: “On-going excavations at Winterbrook and New Barn Farm by Foundations Archaeology, with an update on the Cholsey Roman villa report”
Our speaker, Andy Hood has over 20 years experience in commercial archaeology, when he began working for Foundations Archaeology in 2000, whilst studying for an archaeology degree. Since 2005, he has managed numerous archaeological projects, including watching briefs, evaluations and excavations.
He will describe the ongoing excavations in Winterbrook (ie. south Wallingford) and at New Barn Farm gravel quarry (adjacent Wallingford bypass).
Andy was the project leader for Foundations Archaeology whilst working on a housing development in Cholsey in 2017, and he will update on the discovery of a Roman villa there.
