A second earthquake, this time measuring magnitude 5.5, struck off the west coast of Vancouver Island at approximately 9:41 p.m. Sunday.
The quake came less than two hours after a magnitude 4.9 earthquake was recorded at about 7:53 p.m., roughly 195 kilometres west-southwest of Port McNeill.
Both earthquakes occurred in the same general offshore region west of northern Vancouver Island, with the second quake significantly stronger than the first.
That means two notable earthquakes have struck the area in less than two hours Sunday night.
BC Emergency is reporting the second quake as a 5.2 and say there is no tsunami threat to B.C
