Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging came into force this year.
The short version: if you produce, import, or sell packaged goods in the UK, you're now financially
responsible for the end-of-life cost of that packaging.
From 2026/27, fees are being modulated based on
recyclability β packaging rated red under the government's Recyclability Assessment Methodology will attract higher fees, with the gap widening year on year.
For businesses generating plastic waste, the question isn't just about disposal anymore. It's about where
your material ends up and whether it can be demonstrated to re-enter the supply chain.
