Sale every Thursday to commence at 1:30pm approx.
• 53 Prime Heifers sold to 438.5ppk or £2876 and averaged 379ppk.

Clean Cattle – Similar numbers and a better trade overall with 22 cattle passing 400ppk, 10 of which made above 420ppk. More could have been sold to advantage. Once again a lot of heavy cattle, 57 weighing above 600kgs of which 17 passed 700kgs.

Plenty of handy weight commercial lambs sold between 510 – 540ppk, with the best bred sorts 550ppk plus.

Cull Ewes – Few more ewes forward this week with overall quality very good, with plenty of fed ewes forward. Trade would be very similar on the week, with buyers keen for numbers. Heavy ewes £200 - £220, with plenty of fleshy types £170+. Heavy Mule ewes £170 - £190, with a cut below £130 - £150.

Top price of the day went to a Texel tup from DE Coning & Sons, Tollerton which sold for £318 to Buffalo Produce, Brompton whilst ewes topped at £240 for a pair of pure Texel ewes from Robert Barker, Tenterhill which were bought by Mr Alam of Lancashire Direct Halal Meat Ltd, Blackburn.

Prime Pigs – Another large entry of pigs sold to a steady trade as the pig trade remains not great! Coloured pigs remain 150ppk, whilst shop gilts sold either side of 110ppk.

Top price of the day went to Phil Story of Cleveland with a coloured pigs selling to 150ppk which were purchased by Buffalo Produce, Brompton.

Topping the pounds per head was a big, clean gilt from DW Metcalfe, Ripon which sold for £187 to the same buyer.

Cull Sows – A slightly smaller entry of sows sold to a trade, 6p less on the previous week. Best sows 20ppk, with fleshy sorts 18 – 20ppk.

Store Cattle – A small show, not unusual for the time of year. Trade was extremely good throughut with a top price of £2500 for Angus X steers from T Rymer & Son, Sutton. Heifers sold to £2080 for Saler X from I Oliver, Brancepeth. Young Bulls were also a vert good trade selling to £1520 for Angus X from TW Thompson & Sons, Kilburn.

Cull Cows – A small, very mixed entry of cows sold to a similar trade, with fed sorts well bid for, however lean types hard to place.
Top price of the day went to none other than Matthew Keel of Bagby for a tremendous Limousin cow which scaled at 840kg and sold for 354.5ppk or £2977 to Morgan Helliwell, Rochdale. This good home sold a further Limousin cow at 351.5ppk or £2359.

• 736 Prime Lambs sold to £265.5 or 588ppk and averaged £213 or 483ppk (SQQ 483ppk).
• 232 Prime Hoggs sold to £258.5 or 460ppk and averaged £166 or 340ppk.

Prime Lambs – A smaller offering of lambs this week at TFAM, with most vendors getting on top of their lambs. Trade was again incredible, without reaching last weeks biblical levels, all classes again were in extreme demand. Heavy types again the order of the day, with a real shortage of weight nationally, with the handful of 48kg plus lambs, £248+. Plenty of commercial, 42 – 46kg sorts which looked very well sold, £220 – £230, however some rushed, under finished, 36 – 40kg, commercial bred types harder to place, £180. The well bred, fleshy, hand weights all over 540ppk, with plenty of smart sorts 510 – 530ppk.

Top price of the day went to John and David Harker of Upsall with their fantastic consignment of well bred, and fed lambs which topped the sale at £265.5 for a smart, 51kg Texel lamb which was purchased by Kevin Kelly on behalf of N Bramhall & Son Ltd. This good home lead the pounds per head average at a whopping £248 for 21 lambs sold.

Topping the pence per kilo was Mr Ali Sutcliffe, Carlton in Cleveland who achieved the top 4 ppk prices at 588, 576, 571 and 568. A cracking pair of 38kg, Beltex X lambs sold for 588ppk to Field Fresh Trading Ltd, Conwy. 21 smashing lambs from this home levelled at 516ppk.

Cull Ewes – A small entry of ewes proved very good to sell, with all classes in extreme demand as buyers came forward keen for numbers. The heavy sorts all sold over £200, with the best bred types £220+. Medium ewes sold either side of £170, with only lean types under £140. Heavy Mule ewes sold over £180, with medium types £150 - £170.

Top price of the day came from Charles and Racheal Ashbridge of Cold Kirkby for a smart pure Texel which sold for £240 to Mr Alam of Lancashire Direct Halal Meat Ltd, Blackburn. This good hoke sold further ewes at £210 and £202.

• 69 Prime Pigs sold to 160ppk X3 or £208 and averaged 117ppk or £136.
• 58 Cull Sows sold to 28ppk or £81 and averaged 23ppk or £56.
• 3 Cull Boars sold to 20ppk or £69 and averaged 17ppk or £44.

Prime Pigs – Another very large entry of prime pigs this week at Thirsk with all classes again hard to place, apart from coloured pigs which all traded 150 – 160ppk. Handy weight shop gilts sold either side of 130ppk, with the heavier end adding up to £140 to £160. Boars remain extremely hard to place, whilst only a handful of big, clean gilts were also much harder to place.

Top prices of the day went to Vicky Swales of Grantley who achieved 7 out of the top 10 ppk top prices and the top 4 pph top prices. Vicky sold coloured gilts to 160ppk on 3 occasions, with a cracking single 130kg gilt totting up to £208, all purchased by Buffalo Produce, Brompton.

Cull Sows – A pleasing entry of sows forward, with a lack of quality sorts forward. Trade back a couple of pence on the week to level at 23ppk, with the best types 25ppk+.

Top price of the day was 28ppk and £81 which was achieved by Holmefield Farm Services, Murton Lane for a pair of 290kg sows which were purchased by Castle Bank Butchers, Witton Le Wear.
