Another Step Forward for CLL Treatment

A new treatment option is bringing encouraging news for people living with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) in England. NICE has approved pirtobrutinib for adults who have previously received another BTK inhibitor and for whom further treatment with a different BTK inhibitor is unsuitable.

Designed to target leukaemia cells, pirtobrutinib works by blocking signals that help cancer cells grow and survive. While it will not be suitable for everyone, its availability gives healthcare professionals another opportunity to tailor treatment around individual circumstances and quality of life.

Importantly, patient experiences were heard. Leukaemia Care contributed to the NICE appraisal alongside other charities, helping decision-makers understand the real-life impact of treatment access.

At iCollectClothes we are delighted to support Leukaemia Care and its tireless efforts to champion better treatments, greater awareness and improved quality of life for everyone affected by blood cancer.💛

A Breakthrough in Blood Matching Could Protect Kidney Transplants

A better chance of finding the right match could change lives. NHS Blood and Transplant is introducing double-matched blood transfusions across 24 kidney transplant units in England, following a successful pilot in 2024.

This innovative approach tackles a major barrier. By matching both red and white blood cells, the programme aims to reduce HLA sensitisation, an immune response that can make finding a suitable kidney more difficult and increase the risk of rejection after transplantation.

The potential impact is significant. With more than 7,200 people awaiting a kidney transplant, the programme could prevent up to 100 transplant rejections each year and provide new hope for patients facing lengthy waits.

At iCollectClothes we are honoured to support Kidney Care UK's essential work supporting kidney patients and families across the country.🧡

Leadership with heart can make a lasting difference. Cherry Trees are delighted to have welcomed Sally Davies as CEO, bringing a new perspective to a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people with disabilities and their families.

Sally brings 17 years of expertise across health and social care, most recently serving as Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Sue Ryder. She was particularly inspired by Cherry Trees’ powerful ethos of “Child First, Disability Second”, ensuring every young person is recognised for who they are before their disability.

Sally is passionate about ensuring children with disabilities are never overlooked and believes collaboration between charities and professionals can create stronger support systems for families.

Sharing Allergy Information Safely in Schools

This September brings an important change for schools. As Benedict’s Law comes into force, schools must balance stronger allergy safeguards with their responsibilities under UK GDPR. Crucially, data protection should support pupil safety, not become a barrier to sharing essential information.

Practical preparation is at the heart of new guidance from Anaphylaxis UK and Data Protection Education. It introduces the Secure Safe Care Information Point (SSCIP), providing schools with a controlled way to keep accurate medical and allergy information available to appropriate staff. Importantly, the guidance stresses that awareness does not replace proper allergy training.

The guidance highlights regular updates to SSCIP records, emergency grab bags and trips & visits packs, so crucial details remain available wherever pupils are cared for.

At iCollectClothes we are delighted to support Anaphylaxis UK in promoting clearer guidance and safer school environments for pupils living with serious allergies.💚

Protecting Horses Starts with Reporting Equine Flu

Equine influenza is highly contagious, making accurate and timely reporting essential. When confirmed cases are shared, horse owners, vets and equestrian organisations can take appropriate precautions to reduce transmission and protect animals nationwide.

Remus Horse Sanctuary places the wellbeing of its horses, donkeys and other rescued animals at the centre of everything it does. Strong biosecurity measures and access to trustworthy information are essential for managing infectious disease risks.

The featured Horse & Hound article explores why increased reporting matters and what horse owners should know when managing the risk of equine flu.

At iCollectClothes we are committed to supporting Remus and its dedication to protecting animals and promoting responsible equine welfare.💚

At just six months old, Skye is beginning again.

Sometimes, the smallest dogs carry the biggest stories. At only six months old, Skye has arrived at Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue fearful of ordinary experiences that every young puppy should be learning to enjoy.

After attending a residential training programme, Skye returned home displaying significant changes in her behaviour. LUOSKO has reviewed information surrounding her experience and raised welfare concerns with the appropriate organisations, which are awaiting consideration.

LUOSKO will give Skye the time and compassionate support she needs to rebuild her confidence before eventually finding the right forever home.

At iCollectClothes we remain committed to supporting LUOSKO and its compassionate mission to give vulnerable German Shepherds the understanding, security and brighter futures they deserve.💙

Investing in Tomorrow’s Cancer Breakthroughs

Sussex Cancer Fund is investing in the future of cancer care by supporting an innovative research project through the Sussex Cancer Research Centre’s Pump-Priming Awards. Scientists at the University of Sussex are exploring how blocking the DNA2 protein could lead to more effective treatments for cancers that are currently difficult to tackle, including pancreatic cancer.

Early-stage funding is often the key to turning scientific discoveries into real-world solutions. By supporting researchers as they gather vital proof-of-concept data, Sussex Cancer Fund helps unlock larger investment and keeps groundbreaking studies moving towards clinical success.

Through continued investment in local research, Sussex Cancer Fund is helping transform pioneering ideas into hope for patients across Sussex and beyond.

At iCollectClothes we are committed to supporting organisations that invest in pioneering research and create hope for better cancer care in the years ahead.💜
