As we celebrate Volunteers' Week, it's great to see colleagues using our Be the Difference volunteering scheme to support causes that matter to them.

Recently, members of our Soft FM team volunteered at the Army Flying Museum, combining their professional expertise, innovative cleaning technology and strong connections to the Armed Forces community to help preserve an important part of military heritage.

Using sustainable cleaning products and specialist equipment, the team carried out external cleaning works around the museum while also demonstrating how modern, environmentally conscious cleaning solutions can deliver impressive results beyond the Defence Training Estate.

For many of the volunteers, all of whom have military connections and several of whom are veterans, the day held particular significance. A tour of the museum, including the opportunity to see the Apache helicopter that served operationally in Afghanistan, provided a strong reminder of the importance of preserving military history for future generations.

A huge thank you to the team at the Army Flying Museum for their warm welcome and hospitality throughout the day.

Through our Be the Difference scheme, every Landmarc colleague can take two paid volunteering days each year to support charities and community organisations. This project is a great example of how volunteering can strengthen communities, develop skills and create meaningful connections while giving something back.

Today, on World Bee Day, we are recognising the vital role bees and other pollinators play in supporting biodiversity, ecosystems and food production.

At Landmarc, protecting pollinators forms part of our wider commitment to sustainable land management across the Defence Training Estate. Through initiatives such as and designated conservation areas, we are helping to create and protect habitats where wildflowers and pollinators can thrive.

By carefully managing grounds maintenance activity and allowing selected areas to remain uncut through the growing season, we are supporting bees, butterflies and other vital pollinators while enhancing biodiversity across the estate.

The numbers underline why this matters:
🐝 Bees pollinate around a third of the food we eat
🐝 Pollinators support 80% of the world’s flowering plants
🐝 Wild pollinators contribute an estimated £690 million to UK crops annually

But small actions can make a big difference. Whether it’s protecting conservation areas at work, planting pollinator-friendly flowers at home or simply leaving a patch of grass to grow naturally, we all have a role to play in helping nature flourish.
