Being. Constantly. Available. Is. Not. Good. Service! 👏
And I’ll tell you why…
We live in a time when everything is at our fingertips, and there is an expectation of immediate access, whether that’s on social media, email, or even more so, text.
And then comes the pressure to always be on, so we don’t miss something, so people don’t lose interest, or think we’re unprofessional. So now people are answering emails at 10 pm, replying to messages on weekends, and constantly checking notifications.
❌ All that does is reinforce the expectation of instant access.
Fast replies are great, and clear communication is important. But there’s a difference between showing up and doing your job well, and making yourself permanently available at the expense of your own energy.
✨ Because boundaries don’t just exist around the work itself, they exist around your access to yourself, too.
It’s all well and good logging off at 3 pm, but you’re not really switching off if you’re still replying to “quick” emails, checking messages and staying half in work all night.
When you’re constantly accessible, your focus suffers, and your energy dips, and eventually the quality of your work does too.
👉 Not everything is urgent, and not every message needs an immediate response.
And I promise you, replying a few hours later will not make you bad at your job, and if boundaries are something you struggle with, I can help by taking the things that interrupt them off your hands as an executive assistant.
