Leeds City Council is moving forward with plans to extend pedestrian-only hours across key streets in Leeds City Centre, including Briggate, Lands Lane, Commercial Street, Albion Place and Lower Albion Street, with proposed pedestrian-only times changing from 10:30am–7pm to 10am–8pm.

Further noise and out-of-hours restrictions relating to Leeds City Centre (from the River Aire to the A58(M) and Eastgate/St Peters Street ring-road), means that waste collections from city centre businesses have to take place between 05.00 and 11.00 on weekdays.

Lili Waste understands how important it is for city centre businesses to keep their waste moving and to meet the limited collection windows set by Leeds City Council. Lili Waste achieves this by:

📍 Careful route planning across key Leeds City Centre streets
🤝 Close coordination with its customers to anticipate any specific increases in waste
🧠 Employing drivers with local knowledge

This means our customers can continue to operate as normal, with waste managed efficiently and in line with the new Simpler Recycling rules relating to source segregation of recyclables.

How we operate in Leeds City Centre, respecting the balance between our customers’ needs and residents/shoppers’ expectations, demonstrates the commitment Lili Waste has to providing a flexible, reliable and compliant service, no matter how significant the challenge.

Today we’re celebrating World Bicycle Day. A global reminder that something as simple as a bike can be affordable, reliable and environmentally friendly.

At Lili Waste Services, sustainability is part of everything we do, and that mindset starts from the top.

Our founder, Matt Miles, is a huge advocate for life on two wheels. When he’s not running the business, you’ll often find him out on his bike taking on new challenges and adventures.

For Matt, cycling isn’t just a hobby. It’s a way to stay connected to the outdoors and reduce environmental impact wherever possible.

It’s a great reminder that small, everyday choices can make a big difference. Whether that’s choosing to cycle more, or improving how your business manages waste.

🌱 Cleaner journeys
🚲 Healthier lifestyles
♻️ Better for the environment

Happy World Bicycle Day!

Cardboard is one of the most widely used packaging materials in the world. But it also plays a huge role in how businesses manage waste and sustainability.

At Lili Waste, we’re helping businesses across the UK improve how they handle cardboard waste and increase recycling performance.

Here are some key facts you might not know

📦 Over 400 million tonnes of cardboard are produced globally every year
🚚 Around 90% of products are shipped in cardboard packaging
🇬🇧 The UK produces 5.4 million tonnes of cardboard and paper waste annually
♻️ More than 70% of UK cardboard and paper is already recycled

And the impact of recycling is significant:

Recycling just 1 tonne of cardboard can save:
💧 7,000 gallons of water
🛢️ 46 gallons of oil
🌳 17 trees
⚡ 4,000 kW of energy
🗑️ 9 cubic yards of landfill space

However, how cardboard is collected matters.

When cardboard is mixed into co-mingled recycling, contamination can increase from around 1% to 20%, reducing recycling efficiency. Dedicated, separate cardboard collections can significantly improve national recycling performance.

For businesses generating high volumes of cardboard, improving your collection setup could also help reduce overall waste costs and increase recycling rates.

If your business produces large amounts of cardboard waste, contact us to explore better, more efficient collection options.

Lili Waste is delighted to announce that it has landed in Aldershot and the surrounding area following another successful 2026 Quarter 1 acquisition, this time from Serco.

Lili Waste has purchased the commercial waste customer list of Serco in connection with its Rushmoor Borough Council domestic waste collection contract. This is the third such commercial waste contract list that Lili Waste has acquired from Serco since 2020, having previously expanded its operations in Canterbury (2020) and Havering (2023).

With a new depot located west of Farnborough, Lili Waste is now operating across the area known as being the “home of the British Army” and will be introducing separate Food & Glass Waste collection rounds in late Spring 2026 in addition to its existing Simpler Recycling services.

To coincide with this significant step in the expansion of Lili Waste’s operations, the Company has signed the Armed Forces Covenant as demonstration of its commitment to the Armed Forces Community that Lili Waste will now be serving in the “home of the British Army”.

Recycling glass is one of the simplest ways to make a real impact on improving recycling rates.

In the UK, around 71% of glass bottles and jars are already being recycled, but the goal is 90% by 2030. And here’s why that matters...

♻️ Glass is 100% recyclable and can be reused endlessly without losing quality.

♻️ Recycling reduces the need to quarry raw materials used in making new glass like sand, limestone, and soda ash.

♻️ It cuts energy use, lowers fossil fuel consumption, and reduces CO2 emissions.

♻️ Just 1 tonne of recycled glass saves 1.2 tonnes of raw materials and 580kg of CO2.

♻️ It reduces air pollution by 20% and water pollution by 50%

But any recycling only works if recyclable waste streams are handled properly. That’s where we come in. With reliable, straightforward source segregated waste collections, you can be confident your glass, and other recyclables, are being managed responsibly.

If your business generates glass waste, get in touch with the Lili Waste team on [email protected] to see how we can help.

20/04/2026

The Hospitality & Food Service sector produces over 1m tonnes of food waste per annum. Every 1kg of food waste thrown away creates over 3kg of CO2e.

Food waste is dense and retains liquid. If placed in your General Waste bin it will inevitably increase the risk of your business paying more for overweight bins. If placed in your Dry Mixed Recycling bin this will contaminate your recyclates making them unrecyclable and risks having a contaminated load charge imposed.

Recycling food waste by source segregation into separate 240 litre bins with scheduled collections using Lili Waste’s dedicated Food & Glass Recycling vehicles operating across our regions, should result in fewer General Waste collections and potential savings for your business.

Lili Waste disposes of all food waste collected by it at local Anaerobic Digestion plants that process the food waste to generate renewable energy for export to the National Grid and produces a nutrient rich fertiliser which replaces the need for synthetic fertilisers which are becoming increasingly more expensive to produce.

If your business generates food waste, get in touch with the Lili Waste team on [email protected] to see how we can help make your business more sustainable and easier for you.

At Lili Waste, we’re continuing to invest in our operations to deliver stronger service and more sustainable and easier waste solutions for our customers.

We’re pleased to introduce the first of 3 new collections vehicles to the Lili Waste fleet specifically designed to collect source segregated food in a sealed compartment to prevent leakage and a separate compartment for glass waste. This first Food & Glass truck is now servicing our customers across Kent and London. This represents a £1m investment by Lili Waste during 2026.

If your business generates food and/or glass waste (whether together or separately), get in touch with the Lili Waste team on [email protected] to see how we can help make your business more sustainable and easier for you.
