A small battery can cause a big problem when it’s thrown away with normal refuse.

Recently, one of our Lili Waste collection vehicles caught fire after a battery was disposed of in general waste. The fire brigade had to attend, and the incident caused disruption to our collection services and the general public.

Lithium-ion batteries in particular can be damaged or crushed during collection and processing, creating a serious fire risk.

So, what should you do with old batteries?

Don’t put them in your general waste or recycling bins. Instead, take them to a local council battery recycling point or another appropriate battery collection facility.

It takes seconds to dispose of a battery correctly, but it could help prevent a much bigger problem.

Think before you bin it.

And once again another vehicle fire today… this is the third in the last few months due to people placing batteries in waste to Containers.

There is a correct route for disposing of such items .

We ask you to be considerate and not place batteries in Containers of any type , consider the risk to our drivers and thier families…the drain on the taxpayer ( fire services ) disruption of Services and also the environmental impact.

Leeds City Council is moving forward with plans to extend pedestrian-only hours across key streets in Leeds City Centre, including Briggate, Lands Lane, Commercial Street, Albion Place and Lower Albion Street, with proposed pedestrian-only times changing from 10:30am–7pm to 10am–8pm.

Further noise and out-of-hours restrictions relating to Leeds City Centre (from the River Aire to the A58(M) and Eastgate/St Peters Street ring-road), means that waste collections from city centre businesses have to take place between 05.00 and 11.00 on weekdays.

Lili Waste understands how important it is for city centre businesses to keep their waste moving and to meet the limited collection windows set by Leeds City Council. Lili Waste achieves this by:
