This week is National Allotments Week and this year’s theme is “Grow to Learn” which highlights allotments as living classrooms that teach valuable life skills, support health, and build community connections.

Allotments are seen as:
•Living classrooms – spaces where all ages can learn hands-on growing skills, seasonal cycles, and where food comes from;
•Places where Life Skills such as patience, resilience, curiosity, problem solving and teamwork can be learnt;
•Allowing Generations to Connect encouraging older gardeners to share wisdom, seeds, and advice with younger generations;
•Places where Community and Wellbeing meet to showcase how outdoor physical activity and shared knowledge boost mental and physical health

Lili Waste ensures that the food waste its customers discard is delivered to compliant Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plants that produce nutrient-rich digestate material that is a powerful biofertiliser that reduces the need for synthetic fertilisers.

As every allotment user knows it all starts with the soil.

Lili Waste were delighted to see that our new Coseco K6S 50/50 split body Refuse Collection Vehicle was centre stage at last week’s RVS Golf Day at the Manor House Golf Club, Castle Combe, Wiltshire.

Our Assistant Fleet Manager, Ryan Osborne, and Sales Executive, Jack Burroughs-Ryan, were guests of Refuse Vehicle Solutions at their golf day and didn’t miss the opportunity to get some photos of the Coseco K6S, fully branded in Lili Waste colours.

The first of its kind in the UK, Lil Waste are super excited to take delivery of the Coseco later this month, as part of its drive to make its Simpler Recycling and Workplace Recycling collections even more efficient and compliant.

More on our deployment of this potentially “game changing” RCV as part of Lili Waste’s collection fleet will appear in a post later this month.

Although Lili Waste is in business to collect the waste your business produces, we fully support initiatives to reduce waste from being created in the first place.

Plastic Free July is a shared global movement that helps millions of people reduce plastic waste through simple, everyday choices, so we can all enjoy cleaner streets, oceans, and communities.

Each year more than 3 billion single-use period products are disposed of in the UK and single-use plastics make up 40% of all plastics produced globally! To add to this, 99% of plastic is made from chemicals sourced from fossil fuels.

How can Lili Waste customers help this Plastic Free July?
•Conduct your own “bin audit”, see exactly what single-use plastic your business generates
•Consider appointing a “Green team” in your business to champion sustainability
•Change how you procure or buy products – ask suppliers to pack without plastic and request sustainable packaging such as cardboard instead of plastic
•Switch from plastic wrap on pallet deliveries to ‘cardboard jackets’
•If you are a food business consider ‘reusable containers’ instead of plastic wrap on food or single-use condiments

At Lili Waste we know your business cannot avoid using plastics so please remember to recycle your plastic properly.

Check the Resin Identification Code (RIC) on your waste plastic products. The following is a simple guide of what products are more easily recycled: https://globalactionplan.ie/topic/recycling-plastic/

Leeds City Council is moving forward with plans to extend pedestrian-only hours across key streets in Leeds City Centre, including Briggate, Lands Lane, Commercial Street, Albion Place and Lower Albion Street, with proposed pedestrian-only times changing from 10:30am–7pm to 10am–8pm.

Further noise and out-of-hours restrictions relating to Leeds City Centre (from the River Aire to the A58(M) and Eastgate/St Peters Street ring-road), means that waste collections from city centre businesses have to take place between 05.00 and 11.00 on weekdays.

Lili Waste understands how important it is for city centre businesses to keep their waste moving and to meet the limited collection windows set by Leeds City Council. Lili Waste achieves this by:

📍 Careful route planning across key Leeds City Centre streets
🤝 Close coordination with its customers to anticipate any specific increases in waste
🧠 Employing drivers with local knowledge

This means our customers can continue to operate as normal, with waste managed efficiently and in line with the new Simpler Recycling rules relating to source segregation of recyclables.

How we operate in Leeds City Centre, respecting the balance between our customers’ needs and residents/shoppers’ expectations, demonstrates the commitment Lili Waste has to providing a flexible, reliable and compliant service, no matter how significant the challenge.

Today we’re celebrating World Bicycle Day. A global reminder that something as simple as a bike can be affordable, reliable and environmentally friendly.

At Lili Waste Services, sustainability is part of everything we do, and that mindset starts from the top.

Our founder, Matt Miles, is a huge advocate for life on two wheels. When he’s not running the business, you’ll often find him out on his bike taking on new challenges and adventures.

For Matt, cycling isn’t just a hobby. It’s a way to stay connected to the outdoors and reduce environmental impact wherever possible.

It’s a great reminder that small, everyday choices can make a big difference. Whether that’s choosing to cycle more, or improving how your business manages waste.

🌱 Cleaner journeys
🚲 Healthier lifestyles
♻️ Better for the environment

Happy World Bicycle Day!
