An almost spring like day on my wildlife orchard in Devon. Taking a break from scything for a clearing for the 2026 bulbs to emerge.

I have just registered to re-take the Landmark Forum weekend course in March - 20 years on from doing this first time I have a completely transformed self-image and life.

Now I am using that weekend to create what the next 20 years will look like – anything goes. Dave Version 3.0. The possibility of life just getting better and better everyday for the rest of my life.

When you make a declaration it creates a powerful mindset shift.

What’s your theme for 2026?

I’m just off to play tennis with my daughter who has declared 2026 as Peak Katie – whatever that looks like for every area of her life.

Share yours here. And to keep the fizz for the whole year, have something physical in existence to keep brain-washing yourself. An accountability buddy, an inspiring image on the fridge, or changing your passwords to it. Faking it until you make it.

Don’t go with the flow of other people and external circumstances this year. Direct the river where you say.

The office cleaned and polished.

Creating an impeccable environment to invite people in and talk about their plans for 2026.

Then make a declaration of what's most important for the first three months - by Easter I will..?

Use the carpenter analogy - measure twice, cut once.

Then fire the gun to kick start your 2026.

Unlike other sports reacting to a ball, the golf ball just sits there at your feet.

Waiting for you to initiate movement – let’s see what you’ve got, take a swing.

Some things in life are the same, in that nothing will happen without action from you.

Like that conversation you need to have but been putting off.

Improving your premises, or tidying contents.

Or taking the first step in a plan.

If you see a golf ball just sitting there, first acknowledge it and the fact nothing will happen without you causing change.

Make a declaration to yourself, or better, promise it to someone else, to do something, with a by when.

Write it down, put a note in your diary, or an alarm in your phone.

Take a swing, the ball won’t move otherwise.

Easter, the start of Quarter 2, 2025, to the end of July, or the school holidays.

The opportunity for a reset.

Stop the car, handbrake on, into neutral, ignition off, the speedometer at 0.

Time to breathe... and think.

What's going on for me right now?

What's most important, my priority, one thing (there's no such thing as 'priorities')?

And where would I want to be with that priority in 3 months?

If you Google the word Abracadabra, it's widely believed to be a magical incantation or charm, likely derived from ancient Aramaic or Hebrew phrases related to creation through speech.

'I create as I speak'.

Conceive clearly what you want, visualise the outcome, and take action to receive the opportunities as they appear.

Abracadabra, magic, see?

Pace of accomplishment

Are you present to how much progress you are making?

Your rate of progress can range from drift, (no progress) to glacial, I know I’m progressing although I can’t see it day to day, to purposeful momentum, to velocity, to lightning speed (you see your child running on to the road).

We rarely have structures to take before and after pictures, or temperature readings of how we’re feeling compared to yesterday, last week, or last year.

But when you do, you have tangible evidence of progress, versus just feeling, or hoping I’m getting somewhere.

It’s so motivating to have some kind of structure for measurement, and acknowledgement of progress.

And what get’s measured gets done.

What's your take on this?

I'm currently compiling content for a section on this in the book I'm writing, Life by Design, and I would welcome your thoughts...

Are you complete?

You’ll know if you’re not. There will be something niggling on your mind, something that keeps you awake at night. Or an uncomfortable sensation in the body.

We will never get everything done, or complete, as there will always be something else.

But what you can do is have everything handled.

An outstanding job written down at a specific time to complete in the diary. Something you did or said that you regret, scheduled to put right. A promise that you made and broke, or know that you will have to break, having something in existence to clean it up.

One minute you will feel complete, and the next you notice something that isn’t.

If its not practical to get it complete right now, schedule the completion so that its handled, and your mind and body is freed up again, to be creative, and enjoy the present more.

What's your unique take on this?

Being ongoingly complete will be a section of the book I'm currently writing, Life by Design, and I would welcome your thoughts 🙂
