This week I shine the spotlight on Menopause in the workplace. Things are slowly changing, and I noticed that on my own journey, but there is still a lot more that employees can and should do. After all we are a valuable resource.

In this week’s blog I ask why do we have Menopause? We know what causes Menopause, it is the loss of ovarian function and the decline of our reproductive hormones, which means our reproductive years are over. But why do we have to go through the Menopause at a certain point in our lives? What purpose does it have to us as a species?

In this week’s blog I give an insight into the depression I experienced during my Menopause journey. I share what it was like when the ‘black mist descended’ and the key things that helped me lift the mist.

If you have ever experienced depression, then you will know it’s not a great place to be. No matter what you do its like you are surrounded by a thick black mist that is weighing you down. The ‘black mist’ descended numerous times during my Menopause journey, but notably in the lead up to my t...

In this week’s blog we get ‘hot, hot, hot’ and no we are not talking about that classic Caribbean song (apologies if that song is now stuck in your head!), but we are delving into one of the most common signs on the Menopause journey – hot flushes and night sweats.

This week’s blog also includes my 10 tips to manage hot flushes & night sweats.

The Promise of Spring

January always seems such a long month with the short days and gloomy weather, but it’s end is in sight and the promise of Spring is just around the corner. Next week we finally say ‘farewell’ to January and with the turning of the wheel of the year we welcome February with the celebration that is Imbolc.

In this week’s ‘Wonderful World of Herbs’ blog, I delve into the traditions and folklore surrounding Imbolc and also explain how to make a Dandelion root decoction to help cleanse and balance the body in preparation for Spring.

I love Donna Ashworth's words, and her poem 'Wintering'. It is such a lovely reminder to connect to nature's cycles and our own cycles.

If you’re in the northern hemisphere right now, everything feels like fighting against the wind. And that’s because it is. Be patient with yourself, you’re wintering, and you’re right on time.

In this week’s blog I take you back to November 2018 when I had my first breakdown on my Menopause journey. I touch on how it affected me and how it resulted in my boss at the time receiving the saddest e-mail they’d ever received.

One of the biggest lessons I learnt from this time was the importance of self-care. Self-care is not a luxury it is a necessity.

In my last blog, I touched on the importance of managing stress during the Menopause (or any time) and it’s impact it can have on us physically and emotionally. I wish I had been given that advice and guidance back in 2018 as maybe then I would not have gone through the first of the two breakdowns...

Brew Monday

Christmas and New Year now seem a distant memory, Spring still seems a long way off (and pay day even further off!) and tomorrow is often referred to as ‘blue Monday’ and deemed by some to be the most depressing day of the year.

Thankfully, the Samaritans are trying to debunk this myth and with their “Brew Monday” are encouraging people to stop being blue and start a conversation over a brew. So if you are feeling ‘blue’ reach out and connect with family friends and work colleague and get together tomorrow for a brew. The Samaritans website has all the information you need to hold a ‘Brew Monday’. https://www.samaritans.org/support-us/campaign/brew-monday/

To help lift your spirits if you are feeling blue, you could try a mood lifting herbal tea or go for a walk in nature. Just remember that the days are now starting to get longer, and Spring will soon be with us.

Firstly, happy New Year to you all and welcome 2024, wishing you all a year of good health, happiness & abundance. I’m certainly excited for 2024 and what it will bring.

To welcome the new year, this week’s blog focuses on why managing stress during the Menopause journey is very important and, probably one of the best things you can do to help your journey. This week’s blog also includes my top 10 tips to manage stress during this time (or any time).

Let's face it the Menopause often arrives in our lives at a time when we least need it! We're often juggling other priorities such as work pressures, family life, social commitments, caring for elderly relatives and generally dealing with the 24/7 pressures of daily life. It's no wonder we get stres...

As we step on the Menopause ‘Train’ we often have no idea what lies ahead on the journey, no idea how long the journey will last, or any idea of what signs we may encounter on the way. That was certainly the case when I stepped on the train back in early 2016. If I knew then what the journey ahe...
