Right, this project is both very old and very new.
I originally started it back in May 2014, so around 12 years ago. At the time I was getting heavily into studio photography, learning flash lighting and experimenting with creative photography projects. I thought it would be fun to turn my children and nieces into superheroes.
The plan was simple. I would photograph the kids and create the concepts, while my brother (and business partner in our animation studio) would build the 3D superhero bodies.
Well... I did my part.
Ant never got round to his.
So the project sat abandoned in a dusty ol'folder in my computer for over a decade.
Fast forward to today and we now have AI tools available. I know AI can be a controversial subject, but I see it as exactly that, a tool (photoshop was once just as heavily hated on). Used properly, it can help bring creative ideas to life. In this case, I was able to combine my original photographs, my original sketches and my original concept to finally create the image I'd imagined all those years ago.
And honestly, I'm delighted with how it turned out.
The poster is probably about ten years too late to impress the kids, but I still love it!
You'll also spot fellow and LOOK Photography team member in the picture as a tiny Iron Man rip off. Looking back through the original photos was lovely, and seeing the poses the kids gave us made me smile.
For me, photography has always been about more than simply taking a picture. It's about creativity, imagination and storytelling.
