Cape gauge one (1:24) signal box. Based on Diep River Junction cabin in south Africa.

One of our regular customers had a requirement for a show (G1MRA autumn show) on the 7th of December at the Gaynor motor museum. Being a squeeze on time they attempted using an AI generated 3D model from a photo. The generated model wasn't anywhere near the quality expected, AI had imagined things that weren't there, or badly reproduced parts of the building, also, due to it being generated in a single piece, actually manufacturing it would have been a real issue, especially at 1:24.

It's highlighted that we need a larger photo booth.

The 1:24 (Cape Gauge One) Diep River Junction box is starting to take form. On a tight time scale with it so we'll get as much of an interior done as possible before shipping on Monday. We need a bigger photo booth...

The Diep River Junction Cabin. Created in 1:24 (soon to be 1:76 and 1:43.5)

A little history

Diep River was not simply a station. It became a railway junction where the Cape Flats Line connected with the Cape Town–Simon's Town railway.

The Cape Flats Line had opened in 1904, and by around 1930 trains were branching from the Cape Town–Simon's Town line at Diep River Junction.

The signal cabin's job was to control a fairly complicated piece of railway infrastructure: trains approaching from the Cape Town direction could either continue south toward Muizenberg/Simon's Town or take the junction toward the Cape Flats/Heathfield route.

Rapido's Sirdar chassis certainly works better for Bagnall's J C Gray than the Tsugawa TU Koppel chassis.
