Stanlake Park Wine Estate Settled in 130 acres of peaceful English countryside, Stanlake Park is an impressive historical estate in the Royal County of Berkshire.
(547)

Stanlake Park is a thriving wine producer with a unique vineyard wedding venue, wine bar and luxury accommodation, only 40 min from London, offering tours, tastings and private events. Built for the first time in 1166, its charming main barn houses one of the oldest and largest wineries in the area, and is able to process 70 tonnes of grapes. Our heritage estate and stunning grounds are visited by

thousands of guests every year. All of them have the opportunity to learn about the challenges of grape growing in England and discover the process of winemaking, from the grape to the bottle. Nico Centonze, Stanlake Park’s skilful Italian winemaker, personally takes care of our 10 acres of vineyards and produces a wide range of wines, including white, rosé, red and English sparkling, using our own grapes. Customers are welcome to visit our Wine & Gift Shop, as well as to enjoy a glass of wine with some nibbles in our charming Wine Bar and Garden. Tours and Tastings are organised all year round.

First day of Harvest at Stanlake Park 🍇 ✂️

A very early harvest - broke last year’s record which was already a record! After this long, warm and dry summer the grapes are ready, incredibly ripe and full of aromas. And the birds are starting to help themselves so it’s time to grab what we can! 🦅

This was just a quick start in a small parcel with a selected team. Tomorrow, around 20 Stanlake-dians (not a word, we know) are grabbing their secateurs and dipping themselves into the wilderness of the vine rows. Wish us luck.

In the meantime, we are always open for wine and food, in case you want to come and sit in the comfort of the Wine Bar while watching us work hard.

Exciting times coming up at Stanlake Park. As a result of this long, hot, sunny British summer, it looks like some of our grapes will be ready to be picked earlier than usual, so Nico’s team is preparing everything 🍇 ☀️

Now, you can probably imagine what are these for….. but how does the team here call them, particularly the ones in the right column?

Comment below if you know!!

🍇 "Is the drought affecting the grapes?"

It's one of the questions we're asked the most... and the answer might surprise you!

The good news is that our vines are loving this sunshine. Grapevines are remarkably drought-tolerant, especially our old vines, planted in the late 1970s. Their roots reach several metres underground, where they can still find water even after months of dry weather.

Thanks to this fantastic summer, we're actually ahead of schedule and could be picking grapes by the end of August - just like last year. In fact, Nico's father's vineyard in Puglia is currently behind ours!

After the devastating April frosts, we feared we'd lose up to half of this year's crop. Thankfully, the vines have exceeded expectations, and we now estimate losses of less than 30%. Better still, the grapes that remain are looking exceptional. A slightly smaller crop combined with plenty of sunshine means the vines can concentrate more flavour, sugar and ripeness into every bunch - exactly what every winemaker hopes for.

That said... we're now at the point where the vines could do with a little help from Mother Nature. Grapes are mostly water, and unlike many other products, winemakers can't add water to grape juice.

So, for once, you'll hear a vineyard saying...

Please rain. Just a little.

The interesting Wildlife continues here, with this gorgeous little Grass Snake! He was hiding in between a wall and frame, so we managed to get him out so he didn't get squashed. He's found his way into a cool space for now! ♥️🐍
