Construction shoots can get rough fast. Loose rock and debris do not mix well with prop wash.

That is exactly why the drone mat comes with me on jobs like this. It helps create a cleaner launch and landing spot and cuts down the risk of debris getting kicked up into the aircraft or camera.

Learned that one the hard way after cracking a filter.

When you go for a family day out to Cleethorpes and end up looking for a baby calf to end the day 😂 as always Humberside airport a pleasure to deal with giving me permission to fly.

What shots do you enjoy flying the most?
Vehicle chasing has to be up there — matching speed and trying to stay as low as you dare.
Dual-op is where it really shines, being able to focus fully on flying and framing.

As the kit’s grown over time, staying organised matters more than ever — especially on night shoots.

Batteries, cards, cables, tools… having it all in pouches saves a lot of rummaging.

And then the dilemma… do you power up and warm the batteries just in case, or hold off and risk missing the window? 🌦️

Back in 2018 we were filming up on Stac Pollaidh for Channel 4 Paradise Hunters and had a nightmare trying to take off in it — the edges of the mat kept lifting with the prop wash.

That’s what pushed us to make the 5ft weighted take-off mat.
