CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle but powerful treatment based in Osteopathy which aims to encourage optimal conditions for the body to heal itself, which is its natural tendency. CranioSacral therapists evaluate for areas of restriction and tension in the body's tissues and attempt to release them using light touch. The primary focus is on the craniosacral system, the skull bones, cerebrospinal fluid and membranes inside the skull and around the spinal cord, but secondary to that CranioSacral Therapists also work on the fascia and connective tissue encompassing every part of the body. CranioSacral Therapy is believed to have a profound effect on the central nervous system, potentially leading to deep relaxation. The Upledger Institute describe it as, “A powerful therapy that affects the central nervous system to assist in improving function in the whole body.” http://www.upledger.co.uk/what-is-cst.html
During an initial treatment I will take a medical history, followed by an overall evaluation and treatment. If you decide to have follow up appointments, we'll begin with a quick review and then go straight into treatment. During the treatment you usually lie on your back, fully clothed, on the treatment table. However, if it is difficult for you to lie on your back it is possible to treat in other positions that are more comfortable for you.
Clients try CranioSacral Therapy for many different conditions including those listed below:
Pain anywhere in the body, for example, headaches, sinus problems, migraines, neck pain, back pain. Chronic Fatigue....
and many others.
Parents will often have their babies and children treated for; Flat head, Colic, Feeding problems, post tongue tie correction, birth trauma, torticollis, ASD, ADHD, or recovery from injury.
Occasionally clients report a temporary worsening of symptoms immediately after a treatment, this could be because something longstanding has changed in the body and should not last too long.
Personally, CranioSacral Therapy has helped me with lifelon headache and sinus problems and the Somato Emotional aspect of the treatment has helped me to release tension and stress stored from previous traumatic events and life in general.
