Most employees recognise the significance of maintaining both physical and mental well-being, but incorporating exercise into your daily routine can be tricky. However, with some planning, it can be surprisingly manageable. Here are our top tips!

Morning:
Take on the stair challenge! Skip the elevator when you arrive and opt for the stairs to elevate your heart rate and boost circulation.

Lunchtime:
Step away from your desk for lunch! Physically relocating from your workstation is essential. Enjoy your meal in the office canteen, a break room, or take a stroll to a nearby park to fully disconnect from your screen.

Afternoon:
Prevent that afternoon slump with walk-and-talk meetings! Propose a walking meeting with a colleague for catch-ups that don’t require screens or paperwork.

Evening:
Clear your desk to clear your mind! Spend the last 5 minutes of your day organising your workspace, creating a psychological boundary that signifies the official end of your workday.

British Summertime ends this Sunday! 🌟

The switch back to GMT can affect our health and safety at work, so here are some tips to keep you safe and happy:

✨ Be bright, be seen! When leaving work in the dark, consider wearing reflective clothing or an armband for safety. A pocket torch is also a great idea to light your way!

💡 Check car park lighting! After 6 months, some sensors might not work properly. If the lights don’t come on, don’t hesitate to let your maintenance team know!

😴 Sleep adjustment is key. Even though it’s just an hour difference, it can take time to adapt. Many folks experience seasonal blues during winter months, so feel free to share how you’re feeling with your colleagues. Remember, taking shorter but more frequent breaks can really help!

🌞 Lunchtime special! With more travel in the dark, make the most of daylight by stepping outside during lunch. You might not get a tan, but a breath of fresh air will give you a big mental boost!

Do you sit, stand or wobble?
The ideal ergonomic ratio for office workers alternating between sitting and standing typically ranges from 3:1 to 1:1 (such as 30 minutes of sitting to 15 minutes of standing, or a 1:1 split), while using a yoga ball (stability ball) or a 'wobble stool' is recommended only for short intervals of 15 to 30 minutes rather than a full-time seat.
Best advice is to switch your seating choice regularly through the day, or at the very least get up and walk about for a couple of minutes each hour - stay healthy! 😀

Keeping data secure isn't just a case of changing online passwords frequently - shredding physical documents is vital for security because it prevents identity theft, stops fraud, and ensures legal compliance with data protection laws like GDPR, but choosing the right machine for your work situation can be a bit bewildering - but we're here to help!

🛡️ Shredders - Buyer’s Guide:

✂️ Cut/Security Level: Shredders come in strip cut, cross cut, and micro cut options. Strip cut provides the basic security level, while micro cut offers the highest level of protection due to the minuscule size of the shreds.

👥 Users: Pick a shredder that matches your user count. A small single-user model is perfect for home or individual office use, while a model designed for 5+ users is ideal for team environments.

⏳ Run Time: In larger departments, ensure your shredder can handle frequent and extended usage; a few minutes of operation is generally sufficient for home use.

📏 Size Matters!: Some shredder models can fit conveniently under a desk, making them suitable for home offices. Larger teams may require a departmental shredder, which is bulkier.

🔄 Manual or Auto Feed: Certain models feature a 'load and go' auto-feed mechanism, making them perfect for busy offices where you can let the machine do its job while you focus on yours!

👀 Your eyes need breaks too!

If you spend hours looking at screens, try the 20-20-20 rule:

⏰ Every 20 minutes
👀 Look at something 20 feet (about 6 metres) away
🕐 For at least 20 seconds

It’s a simple habit that can help reduce digital eye strain, tired eyes, and discomfort from prolonged screen use.

Your screen isn’t going anywhere. Give your eyes a little breather. 💻➡️🌿

🍂 A new season is a great opportunity to reset your routines.

Starting work a little earlier during the autumn months can create more focused mornings, improve productivity and help create a better balance throughout the working day.

With shorter days ahead, making the most of the morning can be a simple but effective way to stay productive while protecting time in the evening.

Sometimes, small changes to your daily routine can make a meaningful difference.

Right space, right activity 🌟
A good office or workplace doesn't simply mean lots of desks; it provides a range of environments that people can move between depending on what task they're doing, and it can create a more flexible, productive and enjoyable working environment. Here's some of the benefits:

• Improve productivity by matching the environment to the task.
• Reduce distractions by separating noisy and quiet activities.
• Encourage collaboration and spontaneous communication.
• Support employee wellbeing by providing places to take breaks and change environment.
• Increase flexibility for hybrid and activity-based working.
• Use space more efficiently, particularly when not everyone needs a permanent desk.
• Support different personalities and working styles—some people thrive around others, while others need quiet.
• Create a more adaptable workplace that can accommodate focused work, meetings, teamwork and social activities.

☀️ Make the most of your holiday - go offline! ☀️
Going on holiday without digital devices - or significantly reducing their use - is becoming increasingly popular as a way to truly unwind and reconnect with the world around you. Here's just some of the many benefits:
🧠 Less mental clutter — Constant notifications, messages and scrolling keep your brain switched on. A device-free break gives it a chance to properly unwind.
😌 Lower stress — You’re less likely to worry about work emails, social media, news or other people’s demands.
🌅 More present moments — You’re more likely to notice the scenery, food, sounds and little experiences around you instead of looking at a screen.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Better quality time — Conversations with family or friends tend to be deeper and less interrupted.
💤 Better sleep — Avoiding screens, particularly at night, can make it easier to wind down and sleep well.
📸 Actually experiencing the holiday — Instead of constantly thinking about taking the perfect photo or posting an update, you can simply enjoy where you are.
