***EHV-1 UPDATE***

There are currently no confirmed cases outside of Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre.

With recent updates in the time line of the infection we advise that horses who have been to Crofton since the 20th December should be isolated, swabbed and blood tested. Other horses on the yard should all have temperatures checked twice daily and all movement on or off the yard should stop until testing procedures are completed.

If there are no horses on the yard that have been to Crofton OR had potential contact with a horse that has been to Crofton, then you may continue to hack out and horses can move on and off the yard as normal.

We urge all horse owners to monitor their horses carefully, especially if they appear off colour or off feed. While we want everyone to be careful and take sensible precautions, there is no need to panic.

Information updates are coming through from specialists in equine medicine and infectious disease to ensure we are all giving the same and most up to date advice. If anything changes we will let you know immediately.

Dear Clients,

As a precautionary measure, I have sprayed all my shoeing tools, tool box, leather chaps and work boots with Virkon - a DEFRA approved virucidal disinfectant to combat the spread of EHV-1.

I’ll do this numerous times throughout the working day - and before leaving a yard and arriving at the next.

I will also carry a full change of clothing including a clean jacket - but I will aim to only work at one yard each day then go home, shower and change into fresh clean clothes for the next day - this is an attempt to eliminate cross-contamination between yards.

As well as these measures, I will fully respect individual yard bio-security protocols and lockdown rules - please let me know if there’s any in place - I will also monitor yard social media posts.

Thank you for understanding - working together we should be able to stamp out the spread of this awful equine virus with honesty, responsibility and common sense.
