We were saddened to hear of the passing of artist Tess Jaray, whose work left a lasting mark on Wakefield city centre.

The Cathedral Precinct remains one of the clearest examples of how thoughtful design and public art can completely reshape the way people experience a place. The steps, seating, patterns and open public space she helped create are still part of everyday life in Wakefield decades later, used by residents, workers and visitors alike.

Tess Jaray’s work helped turn the Cathedral area into more than just a route through the city. It became a place to gather, pause and connect, something that continues to influence the character and identity of Wakefield today.

On behalf of everyone at Wakefield BID, we send our condolences to Tess Jaray’s family, friends and all those connected to her remarkable legacy. 🩷

We’ve received reports that the cash machines at Virgin Money and TSB on Bull Ring have been tampered with and glued shut.

Please avoid using these ATMs until the issue has been resolved and always take a quick moment to check cash machines before use.

If something doesn’t look right:
• Don’t attempt to use the machine
• Report it directly to the bank
• Contact police on 101 if needed

We’re so excited to see Wool n Stuff bringing their passion for yarns, crafts, and creativity to the Elizabethan Gallery in summer 2027! After being empty since 2019, this historic space will buzz with workshops, colour, and inspiration, adding a vibrant new chapter to Wakefield’s city centre.

We're delighted to share that after a period of restoration, we'll be moving to the Elizabethan Gallery on Brook Street in summer 2027. This incredible building is nestled between , , and Wakefield bus station, placing it at the heart of the city centre. We're looking forward to revitalizing this space, which has been empty since 2019. We can't believe you figured it out so quick 😀
