Princess Anne to Visit Thailand for the 4th Time in 54 Years to Strengthen Ties Between the Two Royal Families
The Royal Highness of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the United Kingdom of Great Britain's Ambassador to Thailand revealed that Princess Anne, the Princess of Wales, along with Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, the Crown Prince, will officially visit Thailand from July 16-17, 2026. The Royal Household Office has officially scheduled this visit in the official royal calendar.
This visit marks the 4th time Princess Anne has visited Thailand, after previously visiting in 1972, 1989, and 1997, or returning to visit Thailand for nearly 40 years, and the first visit to Thailand in 54 years.
According to the schedule, Princess Anne will pay a visit to Her Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen, along with paying homage to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss and promote cooperation between Thailand and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
She will also visit a school in Bangkok, supported by Save the Children, and participate in the "Play for Change" event, which uses football to promote the well-being, confidence, and learning of children and youth from the Khlong Toei community and the border areas of Tak Province. The event is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the United Kingdom and the Liverpool Football Club Foundation.
In addition, there are science, health, and cultural initiatives, such as meeting with female scientists, providing guidance and presenting cooperation on regional health security, as well as cultural cooperation activities between the two countries.
The relationship between the Thai and British royal families has been close for a long time. In 1960, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, along with Queen Sirikit, officially visited the United Kingdom and was received by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip of Edinborough.
Later, in February 1962, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and Princess Anne visited Thailand. King Rama IX and Queen Sirikit received them. This was Princess Anne's first visit to Thailand, and it marked a significant milestone in the relationship between the two royal families.
The UK Ambassador to Thailand, Mark Gooding, stated that this is the 4th visit by HRH Princess Anne, reflecting the warm and enduring friendship between the Thai and British royal families, and the significant role of both Thai and British royal families in strengthening the partnership between Thailand and the UK.
