Both lock with power, but they work differently, and that affects speed, noise and power use.

When a panic button is pressed, the response needs to match the threat. CQR confirmed panic buttons provide two independent outputs, a requirement of BS8243, suitable for police response:

➜ 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻, 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 – the button is ready and waiting.
➜ 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 – pressing both buttons together activates the first output, sending an unconfirmed signal to indicate a possible threat.
➜ 𝗥𝗲𝗱, 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 – pressing both buttons again sends a confirmed signal to the control panel, indicating a confirmed activation.

The colour-changing LED shows the user exactly where they are in the sequence.

Not all intruder alarm cable is the same, and BS4737-3.30:2015 exists to make sure you can tell the difference.

The standard was reintroduced in 2015 after an influx of poor-quality cable into the UK market was causing systems to malfunction. It sets out three cable types, each with defined materials, a maximum resistance and a 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 so you can identify it on site.

➜ 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟭 – 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱: Tinned copper with LSZH core and sheath insulation. Max resistance 100Ω/km. For installations where low smoke, zero halogen cable is specified.
➜ 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟮 – 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱: Tinned copper with PVC core insulation and a PVC or LSF sheath. Max resistance 100Ω/km. The everyday professional choice.
➜ 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟯 – 𝗬𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗥𝗶𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱: Copper Clad Aluminium (CCA) with PVC core insulation and a PVC or LSF sheath. Max resistance 155Ω/km. A cost-effective option for shorter runs and basic installations.
