Everyone is invited to join our free tours at the Flood Resilient Garden, which was first on display at the 2024 RHS Chelsea Flower show, on Thursday 4 June.

Four great speakers will talk about the garden's design, plants and adpatation for its forever home:

🌿 Dr Ed Barsley, Flood Re Flood Resilient Garden co-designer, is an environmental designer, author and climate resilience specialist, focusing on helping people, homes and communities adapt to a changing climate. He is the Founder and Director of The Environmental Design Studio and the author of Retrofitting for Flood Resilience. He will explain how the garden helps manage flood risk and how he modified the Chelsea design to fit in the differently shaped space at Howbery Park.

🌿Stephen Packman is Environment & Innovation Manager for Nurture Landscapes, which maintains our grounds. Stephen began his 35 year career, qualifying as a horticulturalist, and working as a head gardener on various estates. Having spent 20 years in operations management with Nurture, he spent the following two years focusing on his passion for biodiversity and events. He will talk about looking after the garden as part of the wider Howbery grounds, and explain how it enhances biodiversity

🌿Alison Quantrell is a Horticultural Consultant and Garden Designer at Blooming Botany, based in Wallingford. She has over 20 years of horticultural experience, including 12 years at Oxford Botanic Gardens, where she undertook international seed-collecting trips, plant propagation, and training others. In 2018, she trained in garden design at the London College of Garden Design at Kew, and for the past eight years has run her independent practice. She will discuss the plant choices for the Flood Resilient Garden at Howbery Park and share practical advice for selecting climate-resilient plants for domestic gardens.

🌿 Kelly Ostler-Coyle MCIPR, Director of Corporate Affairs at Flood Re, which sponsored the garden at Chelsea and Howbery, will give an introduction to the sessions. Flood Re is the joint initiative between the UK government and the insurance industry which exists to promote the affordability and availability of flood insurance for homes across the UK. Kelly will be explaining why Flood Re decided to create the garden, and why Howbery was picked as its forever home.

After the tours, visitors will have the option to enjoy a pre-ordered afternoon tea in the Manor Café, which are available all day.
