We recently delivered a specialised training seminar for a team from the UK Atomic Energy Authority to strengthen understanding of the key safety requirements and regulatory responsibilities outlined in the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and UK PE(S)R. Thanks to Penny Martin and to everyone who joined us for your enthusiasm and for the lively and interesting Q&A session - we're glad you found the day useful.

The training was tailored to cover PED essentials and safety requirements within the design, maintenance, and operation of systems/assemblies and experimental facilities for fusion research. This included:

- Core requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU
- Responsibilities of economic operators
- Essential Safety Requirements (ESR, Annex I)
- Equipment categorisation (Annex II)
- Global Conformity assessment for assemblies
- Practical guidance on design and technical file content
- Key considerations for materials, welding, and NDT in relation to ESR

We offer a range of training sessions that help you to understand and apply the PED requirements to legally sell products within the EU. This includes online course, in-person seminars, and bespoke sessions at your choice of location. Please get in touch to find out more.

Thanks to everyone who came to chat to us about PED requirements for refrigeration installations at IRAC 2026, Ireland's Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Exhibition yesterday.

We had a great day answering your questions about how to get the right certification and peace of mind. Many thanks also to the Institute of Refrigeration Ireland for organising such a useful day.

Are you navigating compliance and safety requirements in pressure equipment design and assessment?

We know that applying non-harmonised standards to Pressure Equipment Directive (2014/68/EU), and in particular Annex I, Section 7, is an area of confusion for many professionals. To help make it clearer, we've created a free, detailed Technical Note.

In this note, we break down:
• Essential terms and definitions within the PED framework
• Quantitative requirements relevant to specific pressure equipment
• Practical guidance on demonstrating an “equivalent overall level of safety” when harmonised standards are not applied

We're supporting global heat exchanger manufacturer Ningbo Hrale with their essential pressure equipment compliance. With more than 3 million units made each year, Hrale is a major player domestically and exports their products around the world, including to Europe, Australia and North and South America. Our global compliance capabilities means we can eliminate test duplication to reduce costs and speed up the process whilst ensuring Hrale can confidently meet the essential requirements to export their products around the world.

Our Technical Director Matteo Convento was at their facility in Fenghua, China, this week to oversee a number of essential PED compliance processes and tests as well as to monitor the performance of our local auditors/associates.

Thank you to the team for your hospitality.

An initial inspection of equipment is a legal requirement for refrigeration systems with an installed power above 25 kW and including at least one pressure vessel where PS × Volume exceeds 250 bar litres . HPiVS provides a complete, expert-led service to ensure your pressure systems and safety devices are safe, compliant, and professionally certified. By eliminating duplication we reduce cost, time, and disruption.

It was a pleasure to welcome Peter Wenmoth and Neil Hitchens from Code A Weld to our office earlier this week to discuss dual welding certification and how we can continue strengthening the support we provide to our customers.

Since 2020, we’ve worked in partnership with Code-a-Weld to deliver fully accredited, independent third-party weld surveillance, inspection, and welding certification services across the UK and internationally.

Thank you for a productive meeting - we look forward to our continuing strong and successful partnership.

"Thanks to the incredible collaboration between Pentair and HPiVS, we have successfully completed the Global Conformity Assessment of a new full turn-key plant installation in the UK.

"A huge shout-out to Vladislav Maslov and the entire HPiVS team for their unwavering support and expertise throughout this journey. This achievement reflects the power of teamwork and commitment to excellence."

Alessandro Ferrari, Engineering Manager, Pentair

We're proud to share this positive feedback: HPiVS is an accredited product certification body, but we’re more than that. It’s our mission to make compliance and certification easier – and our world safer.

We're supporting Pentair on their major project to construct a network of plants across the UK that upgrade raw biogas into biomethane, CO₂, and ammonia. Working closely with the Pentair team, we have now successfully certified the majority of these installations with the remaining sites progressing through the conformity assessment procedure as scheduled.

We'd like to thank Tim Holdstock, who retired from his role as Certification Engineer at HPiVS this month.

Alasdair Reay, HPiVS CEO (pictured with Tim below), said:

"We'll miss Tim and wish him every happiness in his retirement. Tim has been an integral part of the HPiVS team helping our industrial division grow. Over the last few months he's also helped us to provide a comprehensive handover for Michael Shaw, who joined the team last Autumn, to ensure our clients continue to enjoy seamless compliance and certification support. Thank you Tim - now you can put even more time into supporting Oxford United to stay up in the Championship 😀"

Earlier this week, we delivered a productive PED training session with the team from Atlantic Projects Company at Tarbert Next Generation Power Station in Ireland.

Led by Matteo Convento , HPiVS's Technical Director (Pressure), the session was tailored specifically to the needs of the Atlantic Projects team, which has partnered with SSE plc to develop the new 300MW power plant set to run on 100% sustainable biofuels.

Thank you to everyone who took part, and in particular to Luan Groenewald for coordinating the training with us.

We offer a range of PED training options designed to help organisations and individuals confidently understand and apply Pressure Equipment Directive requirements. These include bespoke courses, one-day overview seminars, and advanced online training. Please get in touch to find out more.

Read our Tech Note 16 on Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU, specifically Annex I, section 7, and how its requirements apply when non-harmonized standards are used.

The note clarifies:

- Key terms and definitions within the PED framework

- The quantitative requirements applicable to certain pressure equipment

- How to properly demonstrate an “equivalent overall level of safety” when harmonized standards are not applied

Our Quality Director, Vladislav Maslov, recently visited Tbilisi, Georgia to carry out a PED 2014/68/EU Module C2 inspection at the fire extinguisher manufacturer Elplus. This project is especially important to us as it marks our first project in a post-USSR country. We are proud to support Georgian manufacturers on their path to European certification and to help open the door to EU market access.

The visit included witnessed testing of fire extinguishers, with the results documented as part of the conformity assessment process. Seeing local manufacturers invest in compliance with European safety standards is a strong step forward for Georgia’s industrial sector, and we are glad to be part of that journey.

Elplus’s Head of the Quality Department, Mariam Medoshvili, added: “This visit represents an important milestone for Elplus and once again confirms our commitment to quality, safety, and compliance with European regulations. We highly value the professional support and guidance provided throughout the process by HPiVS and its Quality Director, Vladislav Maslov. Compliance with European regulations is a significant step toward bringing Georgian-manufactured fire safety products to the EU market with confidence.”
