This planting season, WRC Trees were delighted to work with Wiltshire Council to establish new hedgerows for rare bats around Trowbridge, part of a wider project to plant and maintain 11km of new hedgerow and 6ha of new woodland around the town – The Trowbridge Bat Mitigation Strategy. Beautiful male and female flowers of alder 𝘈𝘭𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘨𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘢 spotted today – one of our monoecious British native tree species. The yellow, dangly catkins are male, and the small red buds are the developing female catkins. The woody cones are last year’s female fruits, which have opened up to release their seed.

WRC Trees were pleased to put our new IML Picus 3 Sonic Tomograph to use recently to assess the integrity of this mature beech (Fagus sylvatica). The tree was in a high-use area and fruiting bodies of the decay fungus Ganoderma spp. were present at the base of the main stem. The information provided by this sonic tomography was used in combination with a range of other factors related to tree stability to make an informed management recommendation.
