Hi Guys, sorry to have not put an update for absolutely ages, but life has been very busy. The truth is that the Covid 19 crisis hit the auction rooms as they were ordered to close. Some decided to go online only but buyers need to be able to view. Since look down has eased most are up and running again with socially distanced viewing. It started with no one in the salerooms but now with the new rules auction houses have allowed people in to attend sales. Each auction house is different and interprets the new normal differently. Yet from a sellers point of view the prices are really encouraging and in some cases are absolutely sky high. Some auction houses are struggling to find entries whilst others are overwhelmed by the number of items being bought in. Our world is ever changing.... So let's see what tomorrow brings.... Plus from now on I promise to give more regular updates

Some of you may be wondering what effect Brexit will have on the art and antiques market. It is too early to tell, but from history we know that a low pound can help many British auctions and antiques dealers. If this is coupled with low interest rates and a fluctuating stock market investors turn their attention to more tangible assets. This was demonstrated by Sotheby's contemporary art sale on Tuesday evening which saw an above top estimate sale total with only 13% unsold. The sale figures were not a patch on the this time last year but that reflects the difficulty in securing high value consignments due to the uncertainty with regards to the referendum result. At the moment in London we have Olympia and Master Piece, the two major fairs of the season, which are now open for business. I will report back when I the trading is finished as to how the top end of the market faired.

Don't forget Auction Advice Services are also happy to discuss anything you are interested in selling. We are in the Henley area on Monday, so if anyone wants me to pop in please do not hesitate to give me a call.
